Selling Pressure Is Building | OneOption - Stocks. For the first time since April, the 50-day MA is declining. The market has not been able to close above that level for a week and that is a sign that sellers are keeping a lid on the market. This is particularly concerning for bulls since the market bid is typically strong into mega cap tech earnings. I don't trust the rally this morning. The market has recaptured half of yesterday's long red candle. It will hit resistance at the low from last week. Sector rotation has been brisk. We have seen money flowing out of semis and into software. I will be watching to see if that shifts back the other way. The technicals are deteriorating in many respects and the level of selling yesterday on heavy volume is a warning sign. The drop in bonds is another warning sign. The First Shoe Has Dropped | OneOption - Stocks. PRE-OPEN MARKET COMMENTS THURSDAY - This morning the S&P 500 is trading below the 50-day MA and the low of the week after the first round of mega cap tech earnings. Revenues were good, but capex spending is taking a huge bite out of profits. TSLA and GOOG plan to continue investing in AI and that has investors nervous. Next week we will hear from other tech giants and we are likely to hear similar. The overnight breakdown it noteworthy because this also breaches an L+ trendline for a wedge formation. If this move gains intraday traction and if we close on the low, we could see follow through selling. Short sellers are typically passive ahead of mega cap tech earnings and these reactions will embolden them. I felt this undertow a few weeks ago and it is why my market bias changed from neutral to slightly bullish to slightly bearish. This is why we have not been entering swing trades. Your overnight exposure should be minimal. You can evaluate this move lower objectively instead of worrying about your long positions. We have been focusing on day trading. Let's wait to see how steady the decline is. An 85 point drop in futures is likely to have follow through selling. However, a bounce would provide us with a much better entry point. This is our best case scenario this morning and when we get it, you will have to be ready to short quickly. Obviously, if we stack three consecutive long green candles on the open, you don't have to hurry and we need to see more proof before we buy. I see this scenario as unlikely. Chasing this drop early leaves us exposed to a bounce in the first 45 minutes. If we have a gap and go lower, our safest play is to let it go and to wait for a bounce. PRE-OPEN MARKET COMMENTS FRIDAY - The market is trapped in a horizontal range and it is compressing in the middle of that range. Mixed overlapping candles send a clear message. THE MARKET IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE! That is the big picture. Everything inside of this range is program generated noise and it will stay that way as long as we stay in the range. This is a low probability trading environment. Trim your size and trade count and wait for the catalyst that finally breaks us out. CNBC will give you a reason for every move so that you continue to watch. They need eyeballs to generate ad revenue, but in reality buyers and sellers are paired off and on any given day the market could go up or down. Price action is all you need. Turn off the TV and ignore the headlines. When one side or the other prevails you will see it in the price action and the reason why won't matter. The market is going to open at the 50-day MA. As I have been mentioning, the upward momentum has stalled and the major MAs are catching up to price. That means we are going to test these support levels with greater frequency. Semi conductor stocks are getting hit hard. TSM announced fantastic earnings and the AI boom is not slowing down. The data center buildout continues and the order backlog is growing. Does this sound bearish to you? If you have been sidelined by the horrible price action the last month, you are licking your chops because this dip is likely to set up a good buying opportunity. Just like the TSM drop a year ago, nine months ago, six months ago and three months ago. Look at what the stock has done when it touches the 100-day MA. This move is going to flush out weak hands that bought near the high and it is going to attract short sellers who believe the "AI bubble" is about to burst. Mega cap tech stocks will report in two weeks. Shorts are scared to death of getting trapped ahead of the number. Right when everything feels like it is falling apart, the clouds will part and the sun will shine. Bears will take gains and long-term investors will scoop this dip in semi stocks just like they have before. Those who short will blow up their accounts and wonder how something that looked so dire could reverse on a dime.

AI Spending Is Alive and Well | OneOption - Stocks Some analysts doubt this pace can be sustained and they question how AI will be monetized. Other analysts feel that this is a generational investment and that AI will lead to massive productivity improvements. This difference of opinion creates buying and selling pressure and we can see the volatility playing out in stock prices. I am keeping my trading light right now. Tech stocks that have been in a strong up trend have high IVs because of recent volatility in the stock price. I want to take advantage of that and I am a willing buyer of high growth companies at lower levels. If I don't get assigned, I have generated a nice income of 10% a month. The stocks can move around all they want and I won't think twice about it. 20% Drop In IBM Is A Tell - IBM is down 20% preopen on a pre-earnings warning. They said that capex by other firms has temporarily shifted away from software., Instead, customers spending on servers, storage and hardware ahead of proposed pricing increases. This tells us that we should stick with chip stocks when it comes to AI plays.

Reduce Your Trading Activity - One of the keys to predicting price movement is urgency. When buyers or sellers are motivated, our odds of predicting future price movement rise. When they are not motivated, the price action is choppy and the activity is highly influenced by trading programs. This is why we avoid trading stocks with mixed overlapping candles. Neither side has control and predicting future price movement is like trying to predict the flight of a bat. We want stacked consecutive green candles on heavy volume. That is a sign that long term buyers are aggressive. There are a handful of periods each year that last a few weeks. The price action is strong and our odds are high. That is when we trade actively and that is when we "make bank". The rest of the time we are waiting for those moments to set up. This is a time to be patient.
