It genuinely amused me that people think replacing Starmer will make things better.
From Boris Johnson's election onwards, we've been shuffling the bollards on the Titanic.
You have to actually change direction if you want to avoid crashing into the iceberg:
- End Net Zero
- Make business viable again
- Get welfare under control
- Fund defence
- Ensure equality under the law
- Arrest criminals and keep them in jail
- Deport illegal immigrants and close the border
- Bring the civil service to heel
Burnham will become as unpopular as Starmer within months since he isn't going to do any of that.
I find it hard to fathom what would have happened if I'd asked for the taxpayer to pay for my housing when I lived in China or Korea. It would not even compute as a request in their systems.
Many of those "foreign nationals" will have kids who were born in this country. I've yet to hear from Matt and his party where they stand on making children (British children!) homeless, and threatening to deport their parents.
I’ve long said that @NaturalEngland are absolutists. Be it mythical jumping spiders stopping housing or now culling ponies.
The quango should be abolished and power returned to ministers. They are elected and have the democratic mandate

I mean this respectfully. We have a bunch of complete morons running our country.
They introduce a law designed to protect renters, but have instead created more evictions, homelessness, and landlords selling up.
They introduce tax policies that were meant to help workers but have instead created higher unemployment, business shutting down, and heightened cost of living pressures.
Yet, local authorities that are now facing budget cuts will have to bear the brunt of this calamitous and clueless coterie of economic vandals.
In South London dozens of private renters are being evicted after their landlord - an affordable private rent provider - sold their entire estate to property developer
Eviction notices arrived just as the government’s ban on Section 21 became law
Full investigation from me
A young graduate wanting to live in the same area must fork out £1,100 a month for a room in a five-bed house (w/ shared toilets), while disproportionately workless recipients of dubiously allocated housing lotteries get to squat in seven-bedroom houses at 70% of the cost.
The council house swapping Facebook groups and websites are very eye-opening. There are 6- and 7-bedroom properties on offer in Zone 2 at ~£750 a month. Private rents for similar properties would be £6,000+. Enormous subsidies are being distributed in the worst possible way.
The stupidity of, and damage done by, stamp duty is being recognised by more and more people. I’ve said it before and l’ll say it again: any govt which cared about economic growth and people’s welfare would abolish it.

The UK planning system in microcosm - wealthy local campaigners in Cotswolds push through judicial review, even alleging breaches of Public Sector Equality Duty (topical!), just to block housing for year after year after year msn.com/en-gb/money/ot…
This was inspired by the Folk Economics of Housing study from across the pond: same blame of landlords, same faith in price controls, same rejection of supply.
We've now mapped that belief system in Britain for the first time.

🧵 NEW @focaldataHQ: the first map of what Brits actually believe about housing - not just what it wants.
The headline is Britain want more homes, but won't build them.
Why? Only 18% think a shortage is what's causing the crisis.
Off to EGYM. Leisure centre built by council on poor quality driving range land.
Short walk from Maidenhead town and new golf course housing development adjacent to Elizabeth Line and M4.
Allowed site assembly of old leisure centre, bowling alley etc on brownfield town centre site. Now ~440 new homes.
We can build if we have the will and political leadership
The Soho Society is lobbying against EVERY new bar and pub application that comes before Westminster Council.
Nightlife in the UK is, quite frankly, dying.
Young people can't even afford to go out anymore.
So, naturally, the Soho Society wants to make it EVEN harder.
Why? 👇
Yet they're happy to let the welfare bill balloon.
Our national security is being put at risk by a Labour Party which only seeks to retain power through buying votes. Working Brits footing the bill for all.

🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer is considering cutting the planned £18bn increase in defence spending to £15bn over fears the Iran war makes it unaffordable
[@thetimes]
@ReidChalker the overwhelming economic evidence shows us that building housing, including market rate housing, reduces rents---if you oppose building new housing you are hurting tenants. period. full stop.
arguing otherwise is the equivalent of climate denial at this point
Sarah: 'Blaming our housing crisis on immigration is absolutely wild to me.'
Robert: 'Do you not think an extra 10 million people coming into the UK is going to have an effect on housing?'
Sarah: [Confidence waning. Nervous scoff. Asks idiotic question.]
Robert: 'The more people you have in a country, the more houses you're going to need.'
Sarah:
We hear some real batshit crazy things from politicians these days, but congratulations Sarah Wakefield. This Green Party candidate claims on BBC Question Time that immigration plays no part on UK housing demand. FFS, are the Greens serious putting this one up for election???
