🧵 AI agents force a question about who may act. Quantum computing forces a question about how that authority stays secure. @Algorand is working on both, not as one product, but as two layers of the same problem: Authority. 👇 Start with agents. An agent may need to pay, sign, call an API or move funds. The easy design is also the dangerous one: Put the credentials inside the agent. If the runtime is compromised, those credentials become part of the attack surface. AC2 inverts that. The agent does not hold the key. It requests a specific action. The user reviews it in a wallet and approves it with a hardware-bound passkey. The agent receives the signed authorization it needs, not custody of the credential. Authority without possession. Today, that is still human-in-the-loop. The more interesting next step is scoped delegation: A signed mandate could define what an agent may do, up to which limit, and for how long. Inside those bounds, it could operate without asking every time. Control first. Autonomy second. Now consider a different threat. Most accounts still depend on elliptic-curve signatures. A sufficiently capable quantum computer could eventually put that authorization model at risk. So even perfect delegation fails if the cryptography underneath it does not age well. That is why Falcon-1024 matters. @Algorand moved it from State Proofs and earlier implementations into native, protocol-level accounts. Wallets such as @PeraAlgoWallet and @LuteWallet now let users create or upgrade to post-quantum authorization. Not a whitepaper. An account type. The underappreciated piece is rekeying. An existing account can change its authorized signing key without changing its address or moving its assets. The account stays. The authorization model underneath it can evolve. That is cryptographic agility as an actual mechanism, not a slogan. These pieces do not form one stack. AC2 is chain-agnostic: it addresses who may act and under what conditions. Falcon-1024 addresses whether transaction authorization remains secure when the threat model changes. Rekeying allows that cryptographic authorization model to evolve without changing the account itself. Zoom out and the pattern becomes interesting. One side of the ecosystem is preparing for software that acts: OpenClaw • AC2 • x402 • agentic payments Another is preparing for cryptography that must outlast today’s assumptions: Falcon-1024 • quantum accounts • key agility Different layers. Same chain of authority. The next generation of financial infrastructure has to answer three questions at once: Who can act? Under what authority? And will the cryptography proving that authority still hold in the next computing era? AI changes the first two. Quantum computing tests the third. That is why these developments are more interesting together than separately. Not because they form one finished system. Because they treat authorization as something you design before agents are everywhere and before the signature scheme has to change. Build the authority layer early. Change the cryptography later, without moving the account.
