I will appeal to the Supreme Court and take it up to the European Court of Human Rights, if needs be. However, we clearly can not rely on the legal system which completely stitched up the Filton case, and now the Palestine Action ban. This fight can only be won by the people.

Scale of sentences on the 4 young people who took direct action against the arms supplier to Israel is truly shocking. To impose years of imprisonment for protesting to save lives in Gaza is unjust, especially sentencing on terrorist grounds they were never convicted of by a jury

btw few will appreciate how grimly funny it is that this judge both issued a gagging order so that the filton 4 could not explain their motivation to the jury, and then also sentenced them according to a specific intent provision requiring them to have had a specific motivation

Jeremy Johnson - in 50 years time this will be the only 1.39 minutes of your life you'll be remembered for. It'll be played in genocide museums to sum up the complicity and callous brutality of the British state in the face of the slaughter of the Palestinian people - and the courage of those who opposed it.

The only way that prisoners are delivered to court “on time” 99% of the time is if the government allows its chosen private contractors to contractually define “on time” as “whenever we can be bothered”. Every day in every court, we wait *hours* for prisoners to be produced.

Jury trials don’t matter. That’s why we’re still keeping them for the more serious stuff.

Magistrates court trial adjourned because there is no magistrate available. Doesn't bode too well for scrapping jury trials to err, 'clear the court backlog.'

At the risk of stating the obvious (which Lammy would know if he did the job) it’s actually really difficult to advise a client whether the sentence might be 3 years or more, or less. A bad ABH? A standard PWITS A? A nasty CCB? If you’re in CCBD, are you then limited to 3 years?

Lammy seems to have forgotten the concept of the presumption of innocence. "If you steal an iPhone from Curry's this afternoon why should you have a jury trial?" he asked, in a lame attempt to defend the indefensible. 🤔 What if you actually didn't steal the iPhone and were falsely accused by a malicious store detective. And a conviction for theft would cost you your job, your marriage, your house, access to your kids. Lammy is becoming more of a joke every time he opens his mouth. I wouldn't trust him to issue parking tickets.

Did @DavidLammy really use Jarndyce v Jarndyce as justification for his reforms ? A fictional case from Dickens ? Our Lord Chancellor really did this ? The backlog has been largely caused by gross underfunding.
