Do parents in NYC’s District 2 know who is representing them? CEC 2 member Gavin Healy bashes the SHSAT, even though District 2 has the highest number of Specialized High School offers. Healy goes on and on about segregation and high-poverty schools, yet the school HE sends his child to is whiter and more affluent than, you got it, Stuyvesant! Such a hypocrite.

It’s quite peculiar why a national magazine would choose to write about NYC public school integration without interviewing a single public school family or educator. 2 of the “reformers” aren’t even parents and one sent her kids to an elite private school. I still don’t get why all these rags go to the same people who have zero vested interest in the system as opposed to actual parents. Nyah Berg and Matt Gonzales do not have kids, and Leonie pulled her kids out of the public school system in favor of one of the most expensive and elusive private schools over 20 years ago - she is in her 70s.

NYC families can access scholarships funded by private donations to help pay for private tutoring, afterschool programs, and other academic support services.
