Two weeks ago, we celebrated a major milestone on Toronto’s waterfront. Since opening day, visitors have been enjoying the newest 10 acres of Biidaasige Park. More than a park, this space is part of the Port Lands Flood Protection project, an ambitious tri-government partnership working to protect 174 hectares (430 acres) from extreme flooding while restoring ecosystems, creating new public spaces, and laying the groundwork for future waterfront neighbourhoods. 👇 What's your favourite part of Biidaasige Park?

Use Biidaasige Park as an example of what world class design and engineering can accomplish. Not only does it restore a natural river mouth to the lake, thus mitigating flooding exacerbated by climate change, it’s a beautiful gathering spot for people and wildlife. Bravo.

Don’t forget that Ford in 2019, slashed the Ontario Forest Firefighting base budget by 67% (a reduction of approximately $142 million) Then, in 2025, it was another $42 million cut. It’s almost as if the man is an incompetent oaf, incapable of making good decisions.

Let’s not forget that it was Doug & brother Rob Ford that opposed spending the money to create the beautiful Sugar Beach, which is now one of the city’s biggest attractions. They also wanted a Ferris wheel in the Portlands. We need to stop electing these populist oafs.

I just cycled along the waterfront from Sugar Beach through the new Portlands park. @waterfrontoronto has done a beautiful job. Let’s not destroy it by allowing jets and a massive infill at the Toronto islands. Ford & Carney need to listen to people and stop this immediately.

An absolutely brillant addition to the waterfront. Where before there was decay & massive oil tanks, now birds, fish, turtles & people, enjoy the naturalized mouth of the Don. This is what the city can do if Ford is removed from the equation & talented experts are put in charge.

We continue our bioregional pilgrimage through the heart of Turtle Island -- following the sacred headwaters and major confluences of rivers. Today we will leave the Mississippi Delta that gathers waters from half a continent and mingles them into the sea. A great sharing of stories and energies. Sediments that bring life gathering in ancient waters together with the largest "dead zone" on Earth from chemical runoff. Our journey takes us northward to the confluence where the Arkansas River meets the Mighty Mississippi. We will visit those hallowed grounds today before continuing on to Memphis The Tennessee and Ohio Rivers are calling us to their incredible landscapes. We are traveling in an unusual way. Our primary focus is on what is real in these places. How is life happening and what is so important about waters connecting them all with each other. The stories hidden just below the surface of human drama -- some hidden on purpose through genocide and others hidden in plain sight because people have lost the ability to see them. We are planting seeds for bioregional learning centers everywhere we go. Earth Regenerators meet us along the way. Sometimes we hold community gatherings, give talks, visit regenerative projects. Other times we simply go and sit with the water, listening with open hearts and clear minds. This is part of our Dandelion Strategy for Regenerating the Earth. I wrote an essay two days ago about how we can learn from the living flows of our incredible planet to know how to create regenerative economies at all necessary scales. A brand new bridge between Detroit and Canada is finished and ready to open. It would speed up traffic for millions of trucks, cut delays for American businesses, and help the auto industry that employs people in every state. There is just one problem. Donald Trump won’t let it open. Here is why. The family that owns the old bridge stands to lose business when the new one opens. So in January, they gave one million dollars to a pro-Trump super PAC. Weeks later they met with Trump’s Commerce Secretary. He called Trump. Hours after that, Trump announced he would block the new bridge. The opening was set for June 12. It got canceled the day before. The bridge sits there finished and empty. Now here is the part that should make every taxpayer angry. Canada paid for the entire bridge. Every dollar. And the United States already owns half of it for free. Trump is holding up a bridge we got for nothing, to protect a donor who wrote him a check, while picking a fight with our closest ally and biggest trading partner. This is corruption in plain sight. A billionaire pays, and the President delivers. American workers and businesses pay the price. Open the bridge. I quite like an idea someone else had - move the entire Toronto island airport to Pearson, they have the infrastructure, space, and everything needed + shuttle busses to get people from downtown there. Then turn the airport into an island parkland for everyone to use!

$200 million on a parking garage on Toronto’s waterfront will not age well. Just like funnelling cars into the core has not aged well. By the early 2030s, Exhibition Place will have one of the best transit connections in the country, with subway service to downtown, the east end, links into the entire GO rail network, and the waterfront streetcar network. It’s designed to be a major hub. Scotiabank Arena is a regional destination on GO Transit, and revellers arrive by walking, cycling and taking transit. They get to the Rogers Centre the same way. The only reason this works is because our streets on game days are a sea of people, rather than a sea of cars. That’s not an accident. It’s the result of good urban planning. So why are we spending a small fortune to create a traffic mess at Exhibition Place, when the overwhelming majority of people will still arrive by transit? When we invest in transit, people take transit. When we invest in parking, we get more traffic.
