Four trade unions just showed a million women exactly where they stand, and it isn't beside them. In 1874, Emma Paterson founded the Women's Trade Union League because the unions of her day wouldn't organise women. Women built their own room. That room became Labour's Women's Conference. Now #UNISON, #ASLEF, #USDAW and the Musicians' Union are boycotting it. Not Labour's main conference, just the one room built for women. They'll turn up in every other hall this September. Only the women's room gets the empty chairs. This isn't the first time. When #Darlingtonnurses fought for the right to change in private, away from a male colleague, UNISON's own president accused the health secretary of "pandering to anti-trans bigotry" for meeting them. When the nurses won, UNISON's statement didn't mention them once. The seats these unions are giving up were never theirs. They belong to the female cleaners, care workers and nurses whose subscriptions paid for them. A union that empties a woman's seat to make a point has forgotten who it works for. UNISON alone gave Labour close to £1.5 million before the last election. Money like that buys a hearing. It seems it also buys silence, when the people asking to be heard are women. Good article, by @jo_bartosch but it's not a "grotesque experiment". It is the oral rape of the baby, by their father (or another man to whom he may have loaned the baby, for the specific purpose of carrying out what I call 'Trans-Type Lactation Sexual Abuse' (TTLSA). I was taught about men sexually abusing babies in this way this over 30 years ago on my clinical doctorate, when we were studying sex offenders. Babies in this execrable 'Queer Milk' group, will be in the 'Sensorimotor Stage' of their development. This is from age roughly 0 - 2, where infants learn about their world through their senses (sensory), and physical actions (motor). 'Mouthing/oral exploration' is a specific action carried out in the Sensorimotor Stage, by which babies learn about the world. In short, as any parent knows, babies will put just about anything into their mouths. Paedophiles use this reflex to abuse babies. They start with nipples. Then they move on to sex-toys. And then, their penises. (And god only knows what else. ) This 'Queer Milk' group for 'lactating men' is a veneer for child abuse. In fact, it's not a veneer. They're not even bothering to hide what they are doing. A 'transwoman' (man), chestfeeding his (or anyone else's child), is sexually abusing that child. And, I'm not afraid to say it. The question now, is who is going to stop it? (PS: I am calling on my clinical psychology colleagues, including the person who gave us these lectures back in 1998-ish, and who is still a registered psychologist, to speak up about this. Haigh's Broken System Worked Out Rather Well For Haigh Louise Haigh wants Britain to know that the days of Westminster hoarding power are over. Writing in the Mirror, Britain's First Secretary of State described a broken system, decisions taken behind closed doors, power drained from communities into the hands of people who don't understand them. She promised Andy Burnham's government would end it. It is worth remembering how Haigh came to be the one writing that sentence. She resigned from Sir Keir Starmer's cabinet in November 2024, four months into the transport brief, after it emerged she had a fraud conviction from 2013, having told police a work phone was stolen when it wasn't. Twenty months later she is back, not in some minor post but as First Secretary of State, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office, one of the largest concentrations of central authority beneath the Prime Minister himself. She earned it by masterminding Burnham's Makerfield by-election campaign, then flying to Downing Street to help interview candidates for cabinet jobs before Burnham had properly moved in. That is not an outsider's account of how power works in Westminster. That is Westminster working exactly as Haigh describes it, a small circle of personal loyalty deciding who governs, with herself as the beneficiary. The devolution package she was writing to promote has its own tell. Burnham has said the model he's building from is a network organised by Michael Bloomberg, the former New York mayor, through which he met Pittsburgh's Bill Peduto and built trade links from Manchester to Boston and Osaka. Bloomberg is not a socialist. He is a billionaire businessman known for data-driven, top-down urban management, stop-and-frisk policing and sugar taxes, a technocrat's model of how cities should be run, imported into a British devolution debate that already had a perfectly good pedigree of its own. George Osborne created Manchester's mayoralty in the first place, as a Conservative chancellor pursuing growth through local accountability. Burnham didn't need to reach for an American billionaire's playbook. He appears to prefer it anyway. What that playbook actually delivers is where Haigh's article goes quiet. Since Burnham became Greater Manchester's mayor in 2017, the mayoral council tax precept on a Band D property has risen 127 per cent, from £68 to £154. He is now extending precepting powers and a share of income tax to six more English mayoralties, five of them Labour-run, at the same moment Treasury figures show national council tax climbing £18bn by 2030, an average £556 a year on every Band D household in England. Haigh calls this the biggest transfer of power in a generation. On the numbers her own government has supplied to the OBR, it looks more like the biggest transfer of tax-raising power to Labour's own regional network in a generation, arriving with a bill attached that nobody in Downing Street has chosen to mention out loud. None of this makes devolution wrong in principle. It makes Haigh an unreliable narrator of her own government's motives, and that, more than any single figure in the piece, is the story worth telling. A minister restored to office through a closed loop of personal loyalty is warning the country about closed loops. A policy modelled on an American billionaire's technocratic cities network is being sold as power returning to ordinary communities. And a tax rise already visible in Manchester's own record is being described as generosity. The message says power is moving to the people. The messenger, and the mechanism, both say otherwise. "A minister restored to office through a closed loop of personal loyalty is warning the country about closed loops."

This is blatantly inaccurate @MetroUK. Steph Richards is excluded from the formal proceedings of Labour’s women’s conference because he is a man - not because he is trans. While we’re discussing inaccuracies: “Biological sex assigned at birth” is both inaccurate and ideologically loaded. Sex is observed and recorded, not assigned. Richards having a GRC and undergoing surgery is irrelevant to eligibility because neither changes his sex under the Equality Act. It is regrettable that Labour previously misled Richards about his eligibility for women’s opportunities. But last year’s Supreme Court judgment clarified the meaning of “woman” and “female” in law. Isn’t it time Metro caught up - and stopped misleading its readers?
