Preparing for the Cryptographic Future Quantum computing may not pose an immediate threat to blockchain security, but the time to prepare for it is before the technology reaches the point where today’s cryptography becomes vulnerable. This is where Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) becomes increasingly important. PQC is not about using quantum computers for encryption. Instead, it focuses on developing cryptographic methods that can remain secure even in a future where sufficiently powerful quantum computers can break some of the algorithms widely used today. One of the biggest concerns is the “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” scenario. An attacker could potentially collect encrypted information today and store it for years, waiting until quantum computing becomes powerful enough to decrypt it. In blockchain infrastructure, the stakes are even higher because cryptographic security is directly connected to wallets, private keys, transactions, validators, consensus, and ultimately the ownership of digital assets. InterLink can use this evolving body of research to evaluate how quantum-resistant technologies could fit into its long-term architecture. There is also an important strategic advantage to preparing early. A blockchain cannot simply change its cryptographic foundation overnight.
