This might be a contrarian take but I think there is a new way to make lifechanging money in crypto and it's not the way you think. To the younger people in crypto and Web3 right now - the ones in college, thinking about college, or working a normal job while hoping to end up in this industry - here’s the advice I wish someone gave me early on: Stick it out. Work that traditional job. Get the degree. Spend a couple years in a field you might not love. Build the skills you don’t think you’ll need yet but absolutely will down the line. When I look back at my own path, I started as someone who fell in love with Crypto and NFTs who desperately wanted to work in crypto full-time but had no idea how to break in. In retrospect, though, I'm incredibly grateful that I didn’t blindly jump into Web3 before I actually had something valuable to offer. I spent years working for a large accounting firm learning finance, audit, controls, reporting, communication, and professionalism - all the boring stuff you pick up working at a real company. And at the same time, I went deep on crypto and blockchain on my own. If I had rushed into Web3 back then, I wouldn’t have been ready. And I don’t think most people are. As this space matures and the companies get bigger, more structured, more regulated, they’re going to look for people who know how to operate in a professional environment - people who understand systems, controls, processes, risk, and how to work inside an actual organization. If you don’t have that experience, you’re going to get overlooked, no matter how much time you’ve spent on CT or how many DeFi pools you’ve farmed. Look at @SteveKBark at Opensea or @jessepollak looking for a Senior Marketing/Comms Manager... They're looking for experienced professionals to take on some of the most important jobs in the industry. Yes, you might be able to trade your way into life-changing money. That’s the dream for all of us. But for most people, your path into crypto is going to be through working at a company in this industry, or by starting something of your own. And to do that sustainably, you need more than just trading experience. You need a hard skill. You need a foundation. This isn’t an exciting take. It’s not meant to be. It’s just reality. The time you spend now upskilling yourself, learning an actual craft, building professional experience - it pays off tenfold. Because when you finally make the jump into Web3, you’re not just another degen chasing an entry point. You’re someone with real value in an industry that’s still early, still growing, and still handing out ground-floor opportunities that won’t be around forever. This is where the lifechanging money is. If you play it right, you get to work in a space you love and build a life that’s genuinely life-changing. Just don’t skip the part where you actually become good at something first.
