🚨 BOMBSHELL! Donald Trump locked down the White House to secretly plot a catastrophic all-out war on Iran.
He is actively preparing to sacrifice 660,000 US troops in a disastrous invasion.
The administration is using fake diplomacy just to buy time until August 18th.
My reply to Ayatollah Mojtaba Khameini, the Supreme Leader of Iran, who invited me to the funeral ceremony in Tehran of late Ayatollah Ali Khameini
His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khameini, the Supreme Leader of Iran
( Through the Iranian Ambassador to India, New Delhi )
Your Eminence,
It was a signal honour which Your Eminence conferred on my nation, and on me in particular, by inviting me to the funeral ceremony of late Ayatollah Ali Khameini.
I regard the late Ayatollah a brave man who was martyred as he refused to leave his place of work, despite its danger, because he said other Iranians had nowhere to go.
I would have very much liked to attend, and visit Iran, a country I have never visited before, and meet some of its brave people who have heroically, valiantly, and undauntedly faced and successfully resisted the unprovoked sneak attack on it by the militarily mightiest nation on earth. The bravery of the Iranians in facing fearful odds has inspired oppressed people throughout the world, and given them courage in their own struggles, and for which I have written the article below :

However, please forgive me for being unable to attend due to my ill health.
Please accept my deep condolences to you, your family, and the entire brave and valiant Iranian people.

Iran seems eager to make Hormuz tolls as politically palatable to Trump as possible -- a good sign, if he accepts the olive branch.
Per NYT (gift link), Iran is proposing:
1.) Splitting the pot w/Oman
2.) Modeling fees on the Malacca precedent, albeit an imperfect comparison because Malacca fees are voluntary
Both measures would allow Trump to save face.
Bringing in Oman reduces the relative pain of Iran profiting from Trump's war, because at least one friendly Gulf state benefits from the arrangement, too.
Citing Malacca as a precedent for fees allows Trump to plausibly deny that Iran is getting special benefits other countries don't enjoy. (Including Oman helps with that, too.)
Hormuz transit fees are the price of a foolish war. It's a bad outcome, yet unavoidable given that Iran can threaten ships indefinitely with low-cost means (missiles, drones) that are very difficult and expensive to defend against.
It's far cheaper and easier in blood and treasure to pay off Iran than to bog ourselves down into another forever war. But we should never forget it was Trump's ineptitude -- and the knavery of Iran hawks -- that got us into this mess. Had Trump shown restraint, passage through the Strait of Hormuz would still be free.
Though it sucks to pay off an odious regime, monetizing safe passage through Hormuz will incentivize Iran to maximize traffic through the waterway -- which could have stabilizing effects.
And the fees Iran has reportedly charged are modest -- about $1/barrel surcharge on oil tankers. The global economy can afford them far more than it can afford a prolonged Hormuz closure.
If Iran starts gouging or making other demands, the U.S. can retaliate by reimposing sanctions or other measures that are low-cost to the U.S. but high-impact to Iran. We aren't powerless here.
But it makes neither economic nor strategic sense for the Strait of Hormuz to be the U.S.'s hill to die on.

🇮🇶 Iraq just pulled off one of its biggest anti-corruption sweeps in over two decades.
At dawn on Sunday, elite security units sealed off Baghdad's fortified Green Zone and raided homes across the capital, hauling in 47 people, including sitting lawmakers, senior officials, and businessmen.
One of them, a deputy oil minister, is already under U.S. sanctions over claims he helped funnel Iraqi oil to Iran and its allies.
The whole thing reportedly traces back to one official arrested last month, whose confessions cracked open a much wider network.
Investigators have seized around 86 million dollars in cash this month tied to that case alone, some of it reportedly dug out from under farmland.
What gives it weight is who ordered it.
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, a businessman and political newcomer who took office in May with Washington's blessing, ran on cleaning up the graft that's drained Iraq for decades.
The scale fits the problem, with the country sitting near the bottom of global corruption rankings and hundreds of billions thought to have vanished over the years.
Al-Zaidi's sending a clear message that the old way of doing things is over.
