8/8 I’m leaving both old strategies running. I’ll post the second bot too, and update these results once the sample gets much larger. For people who test automated strategies: When do you start taking a paper-tested strategy seriously? Trades? Time? Market regimes? or what?

7/8 The useful part is simply being able to keep lots of experiments alive long enough to find out what survives. That paper-testing setup eventually became LabNarrative: app.labnarrative.com I’m still building it and using it for these experiments myself.

6/8 That’s probably the biggest thing I think differently about now. Years ago, I’d see a good week and start tweaking parameters. Now I’d rather: freeze the rules → stop optimizing → let the sample grow 50 trades. 100 trades. 500 trades. Different market regimes.

5/8 And this is the part that matters: 14 trades prove basically nothing. A 71% win rate can disappear very quickly. A 1.77 profit factor can collapse. The drawdown can get much worse. A good first 2 weeks is not evidence of a durable edge.

3/8 Recently I decided to start again. I went back through my old experiments and picked 3 of the bots that had performed best for me back then. I recreated them and started paper-testing them again. This is the first one: TrendFrend.

2/8 What I actually missed wasn’t the trading. It was the experimentation. Being able to ask: “What happens if I leave this strategy running for 3 months?” …and then just let it collect forward-test data without constantly deciding which bot was worth keeping alive.

1/8 Last years I got obsessed with testing crypto trading bots on 3Commas. I ran dozens of experiments: different entries, exits, DCA settings, pairs, take profits, stop losses. Eventually I stopped Not because I lost interest Because testing that many bots got too expensive.
