The lady in the picture is Phila Ndwandwe from South Africa. She joined Nelson Mandela insurrectional army uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) in 1980s, trained with guns and participated in many field actions. She was captured in 1985 by the white apartheid police, tơrtured for days, humiliated. At the time of her kıdnapping, she had a two-month old baby boy, Thabani, who was with his father, Bheki Mabuza, a fellow ANC cadre. They asked her to become a double agent for the white regime. She refused. Ndwandwe was tortured in hopes of being turned into an informant but when her captors realized that she wouldn’t be of use to them, she was bludgeoned, shot in the head and buried in an unmarked grave on a piece of land just 10 kilometers from where her family resided. Phila’s kiIIers were granted amnesty by The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, they led authorities to her grave. Her remains were exhumed from Elandskop Farm on 12 March 1997. When the body was exhumed, Ndwandwe was on her back in a foetal position, because the grave had not been dug long enough, and had a single bullet wound to the top of her head, indicating that she had been kneeling or squatting when she was killed. Her pelvis was clothed in a plastic packet, fashioned into a pair of panties indicating an attempt to protect her modesty. The South African Government conferred The Order of Mendi for Bravery in Silver Awarded to Ndwandwe, in April 2010, for demonstrating bravery and valour and for sacrificing her life for her comrades in the cause for a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa. ❤️💚🖤✊🏾

In the late 19th century, Mohapi Richard Mapetla left Lesotho after falling out with his family and moved to the Herschel Disctrict (present-day Joe Gqabi). He didn’t just leave, he dropped his last name altogether and went by Richard Mohapi. His bloodline therefore took the last name Mohapi. Then his children, as a way of reconciling with the family in Lesotho decided they would name their children after some of the family names. 79 years ago, on this day in 1947, one of Richard’s children, Wycliff and his wife Grace welcomed a son. They named him Mapetla. Mapetla went on to become a social worker and freedom fighter of the Black Consciousness Movement whose work included the unifying of the liberation movement. Today, the 'low oil' light appeared on my way to fetch my kids from school. The car was losing power, so I decided to go the nearest garage (Total Garage in Ramsgate). Once the oil was replaced, I was unable to move the car because the gears weren't catching. I explained to the attendants that we were new to the area with no one to assist me with fetching my kids, which had to be done immediately. This amazing petrol attendant, Clement, without any thought, asked me if I could drive a manual. Before I knew it, he parked his car next to me with the keys in the ignition and continued work as normal. I managed to fetch my kids on time. I'm so thankful he trusted me with his prized possession without knowing my name or driving abilities. When I returned, he allowed me to drop my kids off at home, and for my husband to return with his car. Clement organized a tow truck and someone to fix the car. He was truly my knight in shining armor! I pray God will bless him beyond measure." Credit: Laine Herman
