But where was that conviction in 2016, when your government presided over one of the darkest chapters in J&K’s recent history? Do you remember 2016: • Saqib Manzoor Mir (15), a school student from Kulgam. • Saqib Bashir, killed during clashes in Kokernag. • Showkat Ahmad Dar, among the first civilian casualties in Bijbehara. • Zubair Ahmad Khanday, who lost his life during protests in Kulgam. • Adil Bashir Bhat, killed during demonstrations in Dooru. • Safeer Ahmad Bhat, a civilian who died during the initial unrest. • Ajaz Ahmad Thokur, killed during clashes in Anantnag. • Jahangir Ahmad Ganai, who died during unrest-related violence. • Danish Ayoub Shah, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the protests. • Yasmeena Akhter, a woman killed during clashes in D.H. Pora. • Feroz Ahmad Mir, who lost his life during the unrest. • Neelofar Jan, killed in a firing incident in Chowgam. • Showkat Ahmad Itoo, who died from firearm injuries during protests. • Inayat Ahmad Bhat, killed during clashes in Pulwama. • Riyaz Ahmad Shah (21), an ATM guard who died after pellet injuries while returning home. • Shabir Ahmad Mangoo, a college lecturer who died after a night search operation. • Nasir Shafi (11), who succumbed to pellet injuries. • Junaid Ahmad Akhoon (12), who later died from pellet injuries. • Five-year-old Zohra Zahoor, whose tiny body was scarred by pellet injuries to her legs, forehead and abdomen. And these are only a few names. The list runs into thousands of victims who were killed, injured, blinded, or left with lifelong scars. So answer the questions the people of Jammu & Kashmir have been asking for years: Why were pellets used? Why were bullets fired on protesters? Why did so many young lives end in graves? If protesting at Jantar Mantar is democracy today, why was the response to protests in Kashmir so different in 2016? The people of Jammu & Kashmir have not forgotten. They deserve accountability, they deserve answers, and they deserve an apology. Selective outrage cannot erase history.

Hello Mr. @OmarAbdullah, could you please tell us where you buy that plastic face? It seems to be the only way to manage such remarkable political duplicity. Today’s protest wasn’t about restoring Jammu & Kashmir’s constitutional identity but it was about reclaiming the Home Department. The silence on Articles 370 and 35A brutally exposed National Conference’s rhetoric and its political priorities. In today’s press briefing at Jantar Mantar, our Hon’ble Chief Minister did not utter the words Article 370 or Article 35A even once. Instead the entire National Conference leadership remained fixated on demanding statehood. If Omar Abdullah truly believes in restoring Jammu & Kashmir’s constitutional position,he should first unequivocally condemn the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and demand their complete restoration. Only then does the demand for statehood carry political credibility.

Martyrdom Is a Religious Concept, Not Political': Sajad Lone Targets NC, PDP over Politics Aroun July 13 Martyrs Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara @sajadlone on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over their observance of the July 13 Martyrs' Day, questioning what he described as the "politicisation" of the sacrifices of those killed in 1931 and alleging inconsistency in their political conduct. Addressing a press conference, Lone said the July 13 martyrs occupy a deeply significant place in the collective memory of Muslims, asserting that martyrdom is fundamentally a religious concept rather than a political one. Referring to the 1931 killings, he said the official historical narrative holds the Maharaja's forces responsible for their deaths, but questioned why successive governments led by the NC and PDP later accommodated descendants of the erstwhile Dogra royal family in positions of power. Lone alleged that while political leaders publicly pay tribute to the July 13 martyrs, their political decisions have contradicted the ideals they claim to uphold. He also dismissed recent claims of restrictions on political leaders visiting the Martyrs' Graveyard, describing them as "drama" and questioning the circumstances surrounding their visits and the media coverage they received. The Peoples Conference chief further raised questions over what he termed the selective recognition of victims of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, asking why those killed during the tenures of the NC and PDP governments are not accorded the same status or remembrance. He said society must reflect on the suffering endured by the families of those who lost their lives and argued that the emotional pain of the victims' relatives is intensified when those they hold politically responsible participate in commemorative events. Lone maintained that the debate over remembrance should be guided by sincerity and accountability rather than political symbolism, urging people to reflect on what he described as the moral responsibility owed to the families of those who lost their lives.

The Dark Era of J&K didn’t begin with outsiders. In my view, it began from within. 9 July 1977. The self-styled “Lion of Kashmir”, Marhoom Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Sahab, moved from the office of Prime Minister of J&K to that of Chief Minister. Not after military defeat. Not under visible compulsion. But through a political choice. For many, it marked the beginning of a long journey of compromises, broken promises and the steady erosion of J&K’s distinct political identity. 9 July 1977: jis din Wazir-e-Azam apni marzi se Wazir-e-Aala ban gaya. The story, in my view, did not end there. Farooq Abdullah sb later accepted constitutional changes that further weakened the protections associated with Articles 370 and 35A. And the political transition continued. Omar Abdullah took oath as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, (without Ladakh)a position very different from heading the former State of Jammu & Kashmir (with Ladakh). Whether one agrees or disagrees, these milestones remain central to any debate on how J&K’s political status evolved. History didn’t change in one day. The hon’ble City Judge/Sub-Judge Srinagar has declared the posts published against me by an infamous scandalous and notorious crook - Sahil Bungre as defamatory and libellous, ordered their deletion, restrained him from publishing similar defamatory material in the future and awarded me ₹40,000 in damages. Lies were manufactured and circulated in an attempt to destroy my reputation. But when called upon to substantiate those allegations before a court of law, no evidence was produced. I chose the Court over the mob, evidence over propaganda, facts over stories and the rule of law over social media trials. Criticism is a right, Defamation is not.
