In a street interview outside Downing Street, a man from Manchester was asked if this is “Andy Burnham’s moment.” His response was blunt: “Hopefully not, because I’m from Manchester and he tried to ruin Manchester with his clean air zones and all the rest of it… the cameras which happened to be his wife’s little policy. They just look after each other, don’t they? And it’s sod everybody else as long as they’re alright, that’s how it works. He then finished with: “Until I get in, nothing’s going to change.” 🤣 The frustration is clear, accusations of cronyism, burdensome policies that hit ordinary people hardest, and a sense that the political class prioritises itself over the public. It sounds like we’d simply be swapping one set of insiders for another. Another politician who looks after their own circle while making life harder for the everyday man and woman on the street.
