With approximately 12,000 displaced persons – 15,000 people now considered homeless – access to clean water is critical in Venezuela. Local staff delivered 1,000 water purification tablets to a shelter in Caracas’s main park — Parque del Este, where displaced people have gathered since the earthquake — to ensure that the water displaced individuals are accessing is safe for consumption. We also quickly established water trucking operations, delivering over 10,000 liters of potable water to more than 7,500 people in the municipality of Hatillo in Miranda state. Last night, Kyiv was struck by devastating attacks that killed at least 21 civilians, injured 85 more, and damaged 28 locations across the capital. “Project HOPE Ukraine teams were on the ground immediately, providing essential aid and psychological support to people affected by the strikes.” said Vira Topikha, Deputy Program Director, Ukraine. Project HOPE’s initial distributions included antibiotics, emergency supplies, disinfectants, and medical equipment to support health workers facing a rapid rise in patients in health facilities across the region. "Our programming is implemented in 55 health centers. However, for this emergency, we are supporting seven health centers within the Capital District, seven in Miranda, and five in La Guaira...On the night of the earthquake, we mobilized to the three main ambulatory emergency rooms in Caracas: one in El Hatillo, the main emergency room in Chacao, followed by the Baruta emergency room. One week has passed since the catastrophic earthquakes in Venezuela, and as search-and-rescue operations shift to search-and-recovery efforts in the coming days, the mental health toll also begins to really settle in for survivors. Project HOPE is providing psychological first aid to patients and families at health centers in an effort to help stabilize people in acute distress, prevent panic attacks and manage grief, and provide lifesaving mental health support in the aftermath of the disaster.
