So, let's talk about it: Give Send Go edition. We have had a ton of questions and valid criticisms about our Give Send Go for the new workshop. I try to be as transparent as possible with most things involving the business and this is no different. First question is: Why are you asking for help? The simple answer is, we need it. Owning and operating a small business like ours is not easy. Operating on a daily basis is a challenge, and a huge responsibility. Those who have followed us for a while know some of the big challenges that we have faced. It's almost like one step forward two steps back sometimes. On top of that, the cost of doing business has risen on just about all fronts, including our taxes, which hit us hard this year because of our growth. That goes into the main criticism that we have seen. "If you are buying a building, why don't you already have a down payment?" And it's another simple answer. We weren't planning on buying. We are a profitable business, but saving money, especially in today's economy is hard especially for a business that tries to stay on the bleeding edge of what's possible. We have been looking to rent a space to expand, and get our FFL, because our current workshop is on the property of the house we live in. I haven't gone through the process of getting our FFL, because I didn't want our home address to be public, for many different reasons. But, we were looking to lease something long term, and not looking to buy. Then pops up this workshop. It sat on the market for a bit, because it's not a looker. It's an older building in a residential neighborhood. Then the price dropped. I have a good friend's (RIP) dad, who is a real estate agent, and broke it down to me that I could pay less on a note for this building that I would pay for rent on a building half the size. So, the smart thing to do is to try our damnedest to make it happen. The down payment needed for the building will be right at 25k, which is understandable for a business that has no track record in buying or selling property. We are essentially unknown to the establishment system. We have credit, but not much history. We have been bootstrapped since day one. No big investments, no bankroll from mommy and daddy, nothing. Just the pure will and determination to make it work. Literally the true American Dream. So, when we got our offer approved, I started with a plan on making that $25k in the next month. We don't want a handout, we don't want to scam or lie to get there, we want to make it there honestly and on our own merit. When I started the Give Send Go, I set it up where folks could put their addresses into a form, so we can get everyone the gear and perks that they were promised in the fundraiser. We are almost half way to our goal on the Give Send Go, and whatever we don't receive there, I will personally make sure that I do not sleep until I figure out a way to make the rest, even if that means doing small jobs around town or selling personal possessions to do it. This next step in our business means the world to me, and I won't stop until I get there. Sorry for the wall of text, but I just want to be 100% transparent with the folks that support us the most.
