Hi @jason, @solar here! Appreciate the shoutout. But as you know, the House just voted to eliminate the 30% tax credit for solar and batteries! We’re already losing the EV game to China—solar and storage are next. One by one, we’re ceding leadership in key strategic industries. AI will be next, simply because we won’t have enough electricity to power the data centers. Solar is the fastest form of electricity to deploy, and we’re cutting it off at the knees. Your bestie @DavidSacks should at least advocate for a phasedown of the ITC to buy time until nuclear plants come online.
Economist: The solar+battery model is working. California gets 75% of its power from solar midday. Batteries now kick in for 30% at night. Battery capacity jumped 32x since 2018.
Iran’s nuclear program has cost the country ~$1T, according to its former foreign minister @JZarif. To put that in perspective: •That’s enough to finance a 750 GW solar farm—about a third of the world’s installed capacity—which would generate over 40% of Iran’s total energy needs. •Even more striking: $1T could build 500 fully integrated solar factories, each producing 10 GW of panels per year from raw silicon to finished modules. That’s 5 TW of solar output per year—enough to cover all of Iran’s current energy consumption in just 5 months. As of 2023, Iran’s sole operational nuclear power facility, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, generated ~ 6.6 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity. This output constituted less than 1% of the country’s total energy consumption. Let that sink in.
