At 96, Clint Eastwood shattered our comfortable illusions about growing old, refusing to sugarcoat the harsh truth. In a recent speech, he explained how the body changes over time. Bones become less flexible, movements slow down, and bright light can bother the eyes. Even breathing can take more effort. And that was just the beginning. He brought his trademark grit to a topic most people prefer to avoid. He didn't offer comforting platitudes about senior years being full of endless serenity. Instead, he painted a stark, unflinching picture of what happens when a human being approaches a century of existence. Eastwood explained that navigating through old memories isn't a sign of mental weakness, but a vital search for continuity. This is why older people frequently repeat the same anecdotes, adding minor details and revisiting old grounds over and over again. They aren't trying to boast or dominate the conversation. They do it to anchor themselves to a reality where they were active, loved, and relevant. "You find yourself repeating stories, adding details, not to convince anyone, but just to feel like you’re still connected to something," Eastwood admitted. "You try to pass things down to the younger generation, even when you can see the boredom in their eyes." In fact, it’s quite frightening to even try to imagine what would be happening to Ukraine right now if we had not taken the path of continuing the development of the drone revolution. If we had continued, as before, being forced to beg for months and years for the provision of every type of weapon and every missile, and remained hostage to endless professional “anti-escalation” advocates with their absurd and irrational restrictions on the use of weapons against Russia, as well as hostage to endless erratic demagogues and ultra-populists who would be ready to feed all of Europe to Putin just to get into power. I don’t think Ukraine would still be able to hold out against such an uneven enemy, who was also absurdly protected for years from strikes against its military machine and economy “to prevent World War III,” if it were not for the drone revolution. This is an immensely significant achievement of Ukraine and its allies.

Why so many Ukrainians speak russian? Let me explain. But first, let me ask you a question: Why do Irish and Scotts speak English, Catalans and Basques speak Spanish, Bretons speak French, etc. You probably know the short answer. But let me put a longer one. Ukrainian language was banned by russia 134 times! Here are most notable events: 1720: A decree by Tsar Peter I banned the printing of books in Ukraine. 1753: A decree by Catherine II prohibited teaching in the Ukrainian language. 1768: A decree from the Synod of the russian Orthodox Church called for the confiscation of Ukrainian primers from the population. 1775: Closure of Ukrainian schools after russian troops destroyed the Zaporizhian Sich. 1830-1840s: russification of Ukraine intensified. Even the very name "Ukraine" was prohibited to be used. 1889: At an archaeological congress in Kyiv, it was permitted to read papers "in all languages except Ukrainian." 1895: A ban on Ukrainian children's literature. 1914: A ban on the Ukrainian press. 1938: Mandatory study of the russian language was introduced throughout Ukraine. At the same time, there was a mass closure of national schools, and the prestige of the Ukrainian language declined. 1926-1939: Physical deportations of Ukrainian activists accused of nationalism. Four family members on my mother’s side were deported. 1929: Newly printed dictionary of Ukrainian was prohibited. 1960s: Arrests and extermination of the young generation of Ukrainian intelligentsia. 130 years ago, Ukrainian-speaking area was not limited by Ukraine, but also some parts of russia and Belarus spoke it (see the red area, that's the result of russian Empire census in 1897, when people identified themselves by the language). So, when someone says that some region of Ukraine is “russian speaking”, read the above list again. It’s a miracle that Ukrainian language even survived, and many people sacrificed their lives for it.

Now this is truly interesting. Polish officials are returning their state decorations in solidarity with Ukraine. Piotr Vogler, a member of the first-term Polish Sejm (1991–1993), has returned his Gold Cross of Merit to Nawrocki. > “I am symbolically returning my decoration to this president as a protest against the foolish decision to strip the President of Ukraine — a country that is fighting a war! — of his order. > This is not a gesture against the president who awarded it to me, because I respect him. It is a gesture against the current occupant of the Belweder, who is increasingly turning Poland and all of us into a laughingstock. > What this man, who is called president, has done and continues to do is terrible. This is what Christianity truly means to Russia. The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the oldest and most significant monastery of Eastern Slavic Orthodox Christianity, a UNESCO site with almost 1,000 years of history, was under Russian attack last night in Ukraine’s capital city. This is what happens in reality while that monstrous Soviet KGB regime obsessed with war and territorial grabs tries to pose as “based and trad” to fool Christian conservatives in the West. And it started raining in the Ukrainan city when its main holy site was on fire.

Ossoff: Last September, the President of Kazakhstan calls Donald Trump and says he wants to grant tungsten mining rights to an American company. And the very next month, Eric and Don Jr. get a stake in the American company pursuing the mining deal. Six days later, six days after Prince Eric and Prince Don get their stake, Kazakhstan announces this company will get, “The largest known undeveloped tungsten resource in the world.” A few more weeks go by, and then the U.S. government, run by their father, sets aside 1.6 billion of your tax dollars to fund and finance their mining project. In Kazakhstan. All this while you pay more for gas, for groceries, for health care, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Four years is a long time. For a child, it is a lifetime. If we want this to end, Europe must do more. The world must do more. Every child deserves a future—and a daily life where the classroom is above ground, and where their family is safe.

Timothy Snyder: By resisting, Ukrainians held back a wider war in Europe. Maybe most importantly, they've given us an example of courage. A better question to ask on the four-year anniversary of this terrible criminal war is, what more could we be doing to help the Ukrainians win this war? The bright faces of Ukrainian children, their love for their country, and their sincere joy. Huge thanks to the educators for instilling the values of friendship, unity, and solidarity. At the same time, I see videos from russia where children in kindergartens and schools are dressed in military uniforms, holding toy and wooden guns. They are being taught militancy from childhood. And after all this, someone still says we are "one people"? No, we are not. We have different goals, different mindsets, and completely different upbringings. In Ukraine, we value life and respect the borders of others, never entering someone's home without an invitation.
