Let me tell you how it happened. Nigeria’s ginger export hit zero from N26 billion within 3 years. The official story blames fungal blight. But here is what actually happened. When Nigerian farmers lost their indigenous seed supply, grant-aided interventions arrived with replacement seeds. An associate professor at Lagos Business School flagged publicly that some of those interventions involved GMO organisms that weakened indigenous crops and compromised soil health. That is not a conspiracy theory because it is a documented academic concern. Now that Nigeria spoke got destroyed by the GMO seedlings….what is not the result? Nigeria was forced to import ginger from China to fill domestic demand. Chinese ginger has none of the pungency, oleoresin content, or quality that made Nigerian ginger a global premium product. And the ginger now sitting in Nigerian markets tastes like wood because it essentially is wood. The two indigenous varieties that built Nigeria’s global ginger reputation, the Tafin Giwa and Yatsun Biri, had decades of soil relationship and quality built into them. Once the soil was degraded and those seed varieties were displaced, the product that returned was a pale imitation. Nigeria did not just lose a market. It lost a seed. And without a National Ginger Seed Bank, which nobody has built, it may never fully get it back.

I spent 4 years paying my younger sister’s school fees. Every single kobo. The day she graduated, she gave the acknowledgement speech and thanked everyone except me. I was loved by kids when I was younger to the extent that I was almost the cause of a particular mom losing her marriage. I’m feeling lazy to type but let me try So there’s this particular lady that was living opposite my house while growing up. She’s married and has a son (about 2-3 year old I think) but the husband lives in another state entirely and hardly comes around. The lady was a student in a higher institution in my city and her husband was working in another state so that explains why he barely visits so nobody really knew him. The mom would bring the child to our house and my mom would help her watch over him when she goes to school until she returns. Whenever this kid is at our place, I’d naturally start playing with him and making him laugh so he started growing attached to me. The attachment grew to the extent that it started almost feeling like a burden to me as he’d not allow me to go anywhere without taking him with me. People started calling me “Baba Bernard (not real name)” which translates to “Bernard’s Dad” and it almost started feeling like I’m the substitute dad. Suddenly, his Dad started coming around more often (unknowingly to me) and this kid would leave his Dad and start coming to our house to play with me instead. I had already grown attached to him by then too so I didn’t mind the clinginess so we’d naturally go everywhere together like we used to and his Dad would be at home wondering where his son is. And sometimes he doesn’t see his son until I’m back home at night with him. The son is already grown a bit by now, 4-5 years old so I could take him to where I play football or play PS 2 or anything I’m doing when I’m not home Apparently, the Dad was getting uncomfortable with this and was already telling his wife to do something about it and at this point, I and the Dad have not met yet so I don’t know what he looks like . The mom was already in a tough place. The son grew attached to me because he was spending a lot of time with me and it also helps her as she knows that the son being with me helps to free her time to do other things during the week and the Dad only comes around by weekends. But since the Dad was getting concerned she had to do something about it . You guys won’t believe what she did and how the story ended 😭 Let me rest here small, I’ll complete the story if you guys show interest 😂😂

Government portals impose arbitrary limits, like requiring documents to be under 500 KB in an era of virtually unlimited storage, so citizens go to these external sites for file compression. These unnecessary hurdles are created by institutions, while ordinary people are left to deal with the inconvenience and privacy.

One of the biggest reasons we fail at our goals is that we set them for the person we want to be, without looking at the reality of who we are right now.
