A civilization’s spiritual system was reduced to something embarrassing, irrational, and unfit for “modern” society. And many Indians internalized that shame. That is the part nobody wants to talk about. Today yoga is a $127 billion global industry. But India, the civilization that gave yoga to humanity, controls less than 5% of it. The deeper spiritual roots are stripped away, Sanskrit terms are removed, Hindu origins are ignored, and yoga is repackaged as a luxury wellness product for Western consumers. The West did not invent yoga. The West commercialized yoga. And India helped abandon it through centuries of colonial conditioning and obsession with Western validation. Now we are buying back our own heritage at 100x the price. Yoga is not just fitness. Yoga is Hindu civilization. And its history should never be erased.
