The Food industry is lobbying for the Health Star Rating similar to the Nutri Score system. The Consumer Protection groups are asking for the FOPL warnings. The Honourable Supreme Court has directed the FSSAI to get back to the court about the FOPL warnings. Guess why it is not happening??!! The pressure from the Food industry??!! The Front-of-pack label(FOPL) warnings are the simplest and most effective way to help people make better food choices in India. A clear “High in Sugar” or “High in Salt” or "High in Fat" warning takes seconds to understand. No calculations. No nutrition knowledge. Just a simple signal that says, “Think twice.” The problem with systems like Nutri-Score or Health Star Ratings is that they average everything into one score. A product loaded with sugar can still look “healthy” because it has added protein, fiber, or vitamins. That’s where warning labels are different. A sugary breakfast cereal still gets HIGH IN SUGAR, even if fiber and vitamins are added to it. An instant noodle high in sodium still gets HIGH IN SODIUM even if protein and vitamins are added to it. A packaged fruit juice with excessive free sugars still gets HIGH IN SUGAR, though it's directly from the fruit. The unhealthy ingredient isn’t hidden behind a better-looking overall grade when FOPL warnings are used. For a country as diverse as India, warning labels also work across languages and literacy levels. A bold symbol is easier to recognize than interpreting letters, colors, or star ratings. Sometimes, the simplest system is the one people actually use. RSS द्वारा देश के केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालयों पर क़ब्ज़े की कहानी : भाग 2 आजकल शिक्षा जगत पर RSS के बढ़ते प्रभाव और विश्वविद्यालयों के भगवाकरण को लेकर देशभर में गंभीर चर्चा चल रही है। ऐसे समय में मैं आपके लिए कुछ ऐसे सबूत साझा करने की यह श्रृंखला लेकर आया हूँ, जिन्हें हमने पिछले कई वर्षों से लगातार आपके सामने रखा था, ताकि समय रहते आपको आगाह किया जा सके। आज वही सवाल राष्ट्रीय बहस का विषय बन चुके हैं। यह वीडियो भी कुछ महीने पुराना है, जिसे मैंने अपने सोशल मीडिया संग्रहालय से आपके लिए निकाला है। इस वीडियो को स्वतंत्र पत्रकार @harshdelhise ने बनाया था। आज इसे दोबारा साझा करने का उद्देश्य केवल इतना है कि लोग देखें—जो बातें तब कही जा रही थीं, वे आज किस तरह वास्तविकता के रूप में हमारे सामने खड़ी हैं। दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कॉलेजों में "युवा कुंभ" जैसे आयोजनों के नाम पर RSS से जुड़े कार्यक्रम खुलेआम आयोजित किए जा रहे थे। कई जगह कॉलेज प्रशासन अलग-अलग नामों से अनुमति देकर इन कार्यक्रमों का हिस्सा बनता दिखाई दिया। ऐसे आयोजनों को लेकर छात्र संगठनों और शिक्षकों के एक वर्ग ने विश्वविद्यालय की संस्थागत निष्पक्षता पर सवाल उठाए और विरोध भी दर्ज कराया। विश्वविद्यालय विचार, बहस, शोध और आलोचनात्मक चिंतन के केंद्र होने चाहिए। लेकिन जब सार्वजनिक शैक्षणिक संस्थानों का उपयोग किसी एक वैचारिक एजेंडे के प्रचार के लिए होने लगे, तो यह केवल एक कार्यक्रम का सवाल नहीं रह जाता, बल्कि विश्वविद्यालयों की स्वायत्तता और लोकतांत्रिक चरित्र का प्रश्न बन जाता है। छात्र विरोध में उतर चुके हैं, जनता सवाल पूछ रही है और कैंपस का माहौल बिगाड़ने की यह कोशिश अब सबके सामने है। सरकारी संस्थानों को किसी भी वैचारिक या राजनीतिक प्रभाव का माध्यम बनाने की प्रवृत्ति पर गंभीर बहस और जवाबदेही दोनों आवश्यक हैं। यह श्रृंखला आगे भी जारी रहेगी। दस्तावेज़ों, वीडियो और तथ्यों के साथ हम उन घटनाओं को सामने लाते रहेंगे, जिन्हें उस समय नज़रअंदाज़ किया गया, लेकिन जिनके परिणाम आज पूरे देश के सामने दिखाई दे रहे हैं।
