More often than not, when abuse is present, the accusation is a projection. What you are accused of is often exactly what is being done to you. I was accused of alienation. Yet now information about the children is not shared with me. I email professionals and copy him in, and only then does he reply with details that should have been shared hours, days or weeks ago. Then comes the claim that I am emailing to make him look like the bad guy. No. I am emailing because withholding information is not acceptable and I refuse to play along with it. I am not here to protect his image. I am here to protect my children. And I will get the information they need, with or without his cooperation.

When you’re a victim of abuse, anger becomes something you’re taught to hide. You’re expected to stay calm. Be polite. Be the bigger person. Even when you’ve been failed, gaslit, ignored and blamed. But anger is a normal response to trauma. It’s what happens when injustice keeps repeating and no one listens. Still, the moment you show it, you’re labelled “difficult”, “unstable”, “aggressive”. Your anger becomes the problem instead of what caused it. You learn to silence it. To cry in private. To apologise for emotions that were never wrong in the first place. But anger doesn’t make a victim dangerous. It makes them human. It’s the body’s truth screaming to be heard after years of being silenced. And it deserves understanding, not shame.

I will ask this question again to @rcpsych Shouldn’t the care of a patient sectioned under the MHA because their mental illness is so severe you need to force them to have treatment, be led by a psychiatrist?

Sensible view here from an ex-ICU nurse FY1. Like myself, a previous BSc (Hons) ODP with 13 yrs’ experience before late-entry medicine, I would never have considered myself safe giving an anaesthetic even if I had gone the AA route. Only a doctor can work at a doctor’s level!

Everyone talks about the smear campaign perpetrators launch during and after separation. Another tool in their coercive control toolbox. But few talk about the impact. And how far reaching it is. It destroys how organisations see you. It poisons friendships. It strains family. It creeps into work. You start withholding, saying “I’m fine,” even lying to protect yourself. Sometimes you share small snippets, sometimes you finally speak, and people are shocked, supportive, sympathetic. But the smear campaign doesn’t stop. Organisations label you “high conflict” and side with the smooth talker. Friends grow tired. Family struggles. Coworkers move on. Slowly you stop sharing. You withdraw. In extreme cases, like mine, when children are removed on hearsay, the shame almost finishes you. Gaslighting eats you alive. You give up explaining. You learn who believes you and who never will. The friends? Gone. Extended family? Get filtered updates. Coworkers? Long gone. My circle is tiny. The smear campaign worked. I’ve healed a little, accepted the world may never see evidence for what it is. I save my breath for people who ask, who truly want to know. But it’s lonely. Terribly lonely. No coffee meetups. No Saturday breakfasts. No casual shopping trips. Yes, I have an amazing husband, my anchor, my truth, my safe place. But the loneliness of no wider circle? That’s a wound I never expected to carry after escaping abuse.

Children are forced to live with abuse, often not realising what it is until years later. Their safe parent is gagged, bound, left to watch the damage unfold, unable to intervene. How will their minds learn what love, respect, and kindness truly are? How will their hearts know the difference between real love and coercion? How will their bodies cope with being forced to endure abuse and the toll of constant emotional harm? This isn’t protection. This isn’t safeguarding. This isn’t helping children thrive. This is sanctioned abuse.

Last year we stopped a record-breaking £484 million of fraud against the taxpayer. We’re clawing back money from phoney Covid loans and stopping illegitimate claims in their tracks. This government will make sure public money goes to public services, not fraudsters.

How would one ever ensure duty of candour? This has been the policy in the NHS but it has not been adhered to, and no one has been penalised to date.. I do hope the restrictions on legal costs would also apply to NHS Trusts. @Keir_Starmer
