The State Police will not be perfect; the Federal Police are insufficient and imperfect, but a federal republic needs State and Local police and policing. That said, the passage of the State Police Act is a significant achievement, and full credit for establishing the State Police and the continued push for devolution of powers goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. On this, you have my 100% support. Go further and see if you can advocate for and implement regional devolution. Well done, Sir.
Once again, I think people from all walks of life can be stylish. Some photos of Afghan men from Robert Spangle's book Afghan Style. I don't think style is about money, body type, posture, skin color, ethnic background, or whatever else. I only focus on outfits, not other stuff.
@dieworkwear fair. now put them in 3rd world streets, molded walls and all the aesthetics go away.
While He Worked at UCH, His Two Eldest Children Were Born Right There in Ibadan When Colonial Doctors Trusted Nigerian Hospitals With Their Own Families: From as early as the 1900s, many colonial officials chose Nigerian hospitals for childbirth. Some delivered right here. Others played it safe and sent their wives by ship to Europe to have the baby, then brought them back to Nigeria afterward. A number of them arrived at a time when Western-style medicine was already growing strong in the country. Take Dr. Richard Lindsey Batten, an English orthopaedic surgeon. He set up Nigeria’s first dedicated blood bank in 1955 at the newly opened University College Hospital, Ibadan. His personal life was tied to the place too. While he worked at UCH, his two eldest children were born right there in Ibadan. His real mark was in trauma care. Batten introduced key blood transfusion methods and advanced fracture-fixing techniques to the hospital, shaping modern surgical practice in Nigeria.
What prompts me to 100% support state police, even though the police we have are not adequate. The total number of police in Nigeria is less than 400,000. Nigeria, with over 200 million people, needs a minimum of 1 million police. - Sen. Ali Ndume
Calling For The President’s Resignation Is A Legitimate Democratic Demand - Zekeri Nigerians are the employers, and the President works for the Nigerian people. Even though I did not vote for President Tinubu, many Nigerians did. But if you are elected to serve the people and fail in the fundamental responsibilities of government, the irreducible minimum is to resign. Idris Zekeri Jr, Spokesman, Peter Obi Media Reach
5 different Nigerian Presidents have refused to check him in because he has fixers in Abuja who allow him to masquerade as an economic lifeline .
Cooking gas has gone from being a basic household necessity to an increasingly burdensome expense for many Nigerians. Refilling a 12.5kg cylinder now costs ₦21,900. This makes no sense. Few years ago, the same cylinder cost as little as ₦800. We can’t continue like this.
How State Police Bill Is Designed to Prevent Governors’ Abuse of Power For many Nigerians, this has always been the biggest concern about State Police. What safeguards are actually in the bill? I break down the oversight mechanisms, intervention powers, and protections designed to prevent abuse. Do you think they are enough?
1983: Nigeria Air Force helicopters rushed to the scene, plucking stranded people from the rooftop: Setting fire to Government buildings had become a tool in Nigeria's corridors of power to cover corruption and hide facts: The Fire That Shook Lagos and Left a Nation in Disbelief: 1983 Report by The New York Times. On January 24, 1983, tragedy struck the heart of Lagos. A massive inferno consumed the 32-story External Telecommunications Building, once the pride of Nigeria's skyline and a symbol of modern advancement. Located in downtown Lagos, the structure had been a beacon of development, but in one harrowing moment, it became a symbol of national shame. People leapt from fifth-floor windows in desperation. Nigeria Air Force helicopters rushed to the scene, rescuing some from the rooftop, the highest in Lagos at the time. But on the ground, chaos reigned. Firefighters mistakenly dropped an incompatible hose into the harbor, and no water reached the flames. The true number of lives lost remains unclear, but the emotional toll was unmistakable. Lagos was blanketed not just in smoke, but in sorrow. Why? Because many believed and still believe that this fire was no accident. According to The New York Times (Feb. 13, 1983), top officials housed in the building were under serious investigation for corruption and financial mismanagement, involving an estimated $100 million. Arson had sadly become a recurring tool in Nigeria's corridors of power used to erase evidence and obstruct justice. This wasn't the first time. In 1981, the Ministry of External Affairs went up in flames. The cause? Investigators pointed fingers at accountants facing scrutiny. Not long after, Government buildings in Abuja burned under similar suspicious conditions. And this particular fire? It had been foreseen. People had whispered. Fear had grown. A week before the blaze, the stationed firefighters were oddly removed from the building. This building, still standing today, remains Nigeria's and West Africa's tallest skyscraper. It claimed that title from Ibadan's Cocoa House back in 1979 and it still holds it. But that may soon change: a major Nigerian bank is currently constructing a new tower in Eko Atlantic City that could surpass it in height and stature. (Undated Photo by RNW: Flickr) Photo 1. A Kehinde Thompson feature for The Nigerian Nostalgia 1981-2000
Enugu back then was something else. Coal City had its own clean, orderly vibe. These Government buildings in these photo shows exactly why. Colonial and early post-colonial planning. Enugu was built as a planned city for coal mining. The British laid it out with wide streets, drainage, and zoning. Residential, Government, and commercial areas were separated. Less chaos makes easier to keep clean. Climate-smart design: Those massive windows weren’t just for looks. Architects then understood Enugu’s weather. Big windows, high ceilings, verandas gives cross ventilation. No AC needed. Buildings breathed, so people spent time outside instead of littering inside. Clean air, clean streets. Smaller, tighter community. Enugu’s population was small. People knew each other. If you dumped trash or let your compound run down, your neighbors would call you out. Shame was a real enforcement tool back then. Quality materials and maintenance culture. Those “well built structures” used concrete, timber, proper roofing. They were built to last, and the government and owners actually maintained them. Painting, repairs, compound sweeping were regular things, not once-in-a-while project. Coal money and discipline. Enugu had money from coal, but also had strict public service rules. Civil servants lived there, and there was a strong work ethic around order and cleanliness. “Coal City” had a reputation to protect. It’s painful seeing the contrast now. But the bones are still there. Good planning, climate design, and community pride made those cities shine.
The older generation didn’t keep things neat because they were “better people.” They had systems, enforcement, fewer people, and a shared sense of pride in the new nation they were building. These photo of Tinubu Square in the early 60s says a lot. The streets are clean, the fountains work, people are dressed sharp. It wasn’t magic. A few things were different back then. Smaller population, better control. Lagos in the 1960s had maybe 500k people. Today it’s 20 Million plus…. Fewer people and more space meant waste was easier to manage and public spaces weren’t overwhelmed. City planning could actually keep up. Strict civic rules and enforcement. “Werey no dey carry litter” wasn’t just talk. Colonial and early post independence Government enforced sanitation laws heavily. “Wole-Wole” and sanitary inspectors would fine you for dumping, urinating by the roadside, or not sweeping your frontage. People kept their compounds clean because the law and community pressure demanded it. Pride and collective identity. Right after independence in 1960, there was strong national pride. “Keep Nigeria clean” meant something. Schools taught hygiene, market women swept their stalls before opening, and communities did monthly sanitation. It was shameful to dirty public space. That social pressure did more than any law. Less plastic, less disposable waste. Old Lagos didn’t have sachet water, nylon bags, and takeaway packs everywhere. People used glass bottles, baskets, paper, leaves. Most of it could decompose or be reused. The waste problem we have now is mostly a plastic problem. Functioning city services. Garbage trucks came on schedule. Drainage was cleared. Fountains like the one in this photo actually worked because maintenance budgets existed and weren’t diverted.
Nigeria Has 35 Million Hungry People, That’s Enough To Form A Country - Zekeri About 35 million Nigerians are facing hunger. This administration has also pushed about 140 million Nigerians into multidimensional poverty. For the President’s spokesperson to dismiss these legitimate concerns of Nigerians is deeply disappointing and unacceptable. Idris Zekeri Jr, Spokesman, Peter Obi Media Reach
Every single part of your daily peace is governed by politics. If you're holding onto a cracked screen because phones now cost millions or you can't buy shawarma without doing mathematics, you are feeling the real-world weight of state failure. Everything is politics.
Lee Kuan Yew: “Air conditioning was a most important invention for us, perhaps one of the signal inventions of history. It changed the nature of civilization by making development possible in the tropics. Without air conditioning you can work only in the cool early-morning hours or at dusk. The first thing I did upon becoming prime minister was to install air conditioners in buildings where the civil service worked. This was key to public efficiency."
This is exactly what they think - because they live behind high walls & have generators running constantly and are fed on tax payers dime, they don't believe people are suffering. It doesn't stop there. They don't believe the country is insecure. They don't believe the roads are bad. They don't believe education is in the pits. They don't believe we lack access to healthcare. They think all our pain and suffering are lies manufactured by the opposition to get them out of power. He's told you exactly what the Tinubu admin thinks of you. The question is what are you going to do about it?
I Don’t See The Level Of Hunger Nigerians Are Complaining About — Onanuga I have people working for me privately and i ask them questions about how they’re surviving and adjusting. This government has increased minimum wage by more than 100%. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to

F.R.A. Williams was born in Lagos on December 16th, 1920. He was named after his maternal grand-uncle, Rotimi Alade Esq, who enrolled as a legal practitioner in 1892. Queen's Counsel (QC): In 1958, he became one of the first two Nigerians appointed as Queen’s Counsel. Record NBA Tenure: He served as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association for the longest tenure in its history (1959–1968).
