There is something deeply patronising in Sharmila Tagore’s argument. Arabs can sing Vande Mataram as a gesture of respect to India and remain perfectly secure in their monotheism, but apparently Indian Muslims must treat every Hindu reference as a theological emergency. Islam does not become weaker because you acknowledge the civilisation you share a country with.

It was a great decision by @narendramodi to reinstall in the rendition of Vande Mataram the sacred stanzas removed by Nehru on Jinnah’s demand. We are not allowed to reclaim our land, our schools, our temples, even our festivals. At least we have reclaimed our song. My views:

Compromising a security protocol for individual convenience could endanger dozens of lives.
