Black people need to accept that we’re moving toward pure, unadulterated racism that can’t be rationalised with. They’d rather see us suffer or dead than see us simply existing, living normally. Nothing matters to them… not your grades, your experience, your work. Even with proof in front of them, they won’t believe it, because they don’t think you deserve it. Yesterday several Black kids posted their A-Level results and suddenly it’s “DEI.” In Britain….where exams are marked blind and DEI has nothing to do with any of it. Even when you work hard, they’ll tell you that you did not.

An article about Arday appeared roughly every 2 hours for 3 weeks. Some of you would restrict your account if 3 people quoted you. This is a man people barely knew existed 3 weeks ago. YOU made him a major public interest by throwing ads under every article and feeding off the racist hounds that smelled blood and were hiding racism under the guise of anti-DEI arguments. There is blood on your hands. You have been calling for a crucifixion, and now that it has happened, you are saying you only pointed to the direction of the hill.

Said a similar thing yesterday in a different context. Jason Arday's death is a terrible tragedy. But people using it to attack journalists for legitimately scrutinising a major public interest issue need to stop.

The media needs to face a reckoning over why they dedicated over 200 articles to a story published in Substack by someone who self-describes his work as "evolution-informed social science" and identifies with "race realism" / hereditarianism; the view that racial groups differ genetically in average intelligence. The decision to target Jason was not because the media through investigative journalism found something of significant public interest, it was because it sensed an opportunity to use Jason to advance an agenda against minority groups and feed the right wing mindset. This is not about 'responsibility' to report, this is rather a calculated exploitation of a man's likely death sentence by taking a so-called philosopher's ideologically-motivated claim, launder it through 'both sides' journalism until it looks like consensus, and let the story write itself into a referendum on whether a Black man deserved his chair. The plagiarism allegation was never the story. The story was always: can we make an example of him to further our agenda. Calling out the media for this hypocrisy is a duty every person of honour must do.

Thread. I met Jason Arday in induction week in my first permanent academic job, at U of Roehampton. We’d been appointed during the same mass hiring& spent a week together in more or less useless training sessions that felt like components of some kind of deranged summer camp. 1/

The late Dr. Jason Arday had a dissertation committee made up of professors. He passed his comprehensive exams, defended his proposal, and had his dissertation vetted. He then defended it before a committee and passed. He became a PhD holder by the standards of his committee, department, and an accredited university. Then, “academically righteous” critics, especially the highly unprofessional british media decided: “You know what? You plagiarized your dissertation.” Was Jason supposed to know better than the professors on his committee, the very people who were supposed to mentor, guide, review, and evaluate his work? To make you “academically righteous” critics happy, he resigned, but you wouldn’t let him be. You kept at it until he passed. We cannot continue to reduce the value of three to five years (or more) of teaching, learning, research, service, and professional development to a pile of papers. My final take on this: By the time my committee, comprised of five professors with ~5 to 20+ years of post-PhD research experience, approves my dissertation as meeting high academic standards and I’m conferred with a PhD, anyone who thinks otherwise after my graduation can go hug a nearby transformer. Rest in Peace, Jason. And I hope your tragic passing sparks the uncomfortable conversations necessary to chart a new path for academia across the world.

The Spectator published around 21. The Guardian published about 19. The Daily Express published more than 10. The Sun published 9. It was a disproportionate media pile-on.

After they’ve killed you, they’ll now turn around and say they are sad that you’re dead 👍🏾

Top white media personalities are saying that if they see a black pilot they will not want to fly because he is an "unqualified DEI hire", and you a Nigerian who is always on twitter acting like you know it all is out here regurgitating these same views.

You see all those conservative African bros, they never see these tweets. Let it be something about Islam, DEI or how white people are being marginalized, then they will be out with vuvuzelas.

I read about the news of Cambridge professor Jason Arday. then I carefully read his PhD thesis paper. I find that he did not do plagiarism. He had mistakes, but that is a mistake everyone, including me, could make. In other words, he died due to fake news. Here is what I found:

I am lost as to why anyone is taking the bait & arguing about DEI right now. A man is dead, & we have a Black UK writer rambling about Nigeria's Federal Character to intellectualise it. We need to reject this premise completely. Regardless of the allegations or his CV, he did not deserve to be turned into a piñata for Black academia. What we just witnessed was a digital public lynching by a media & far-right ecosystem eager for a target. If in life this can not be called out without all this mental gymnastics, it is even more disrespectful to do it in death. You're a writer/academic, and this detached, "objective" posturing is a dangerous illusion. The British media and far-right ecosystem won't read your nuanced prose and grant you immunity. If you ever appear to step out of line, your treatment will be identical. You are burning the midnight oil to defend the centurions that are waiting to carve your own cross. Framing this tragedy as an inevitable consequence of EDI simply legitimises the Trojan horse they've been building for yrs. They're using Arday’s downfall to smuggle in the complete delegitimisation of Black academia, & you are rushing to open the gates of Troy. A man was hounded to his death under the guise of "standards," & used as a vessel for some anti-DEI rage porn with KKK/neoNazi mascots rather than a flawed human. We have to stop intellectualising & participating in our own dehumanisation.
