The scooty that was once bought for ₹1,20,000 is being sold today for just ₹50,000. The loss of money hurts, but what hurts even more is letting go of something that carries so many memories. As I hand over the keys today, my heart feels heavy. But if selling this scooty helps my father get better, then every sacrifice is worth it. "The issue wasn't ₹20. The issue was respect." Today, my friend Rekha, who travels daily from Delhi to Noida for work, witnessed an incident that left her deeply disturbed. According to her, an elderly woman (around 70+ years old) got into a fare dispute with a bus conductor while traveling from Sector 37 to Pari Chowk. The grandmother insisted that she travels on the route regularly and that the fare is ₹30. However, the conductor demanded ₹50. What started as a disagreement over ₹20 soon became a matter of dignity. Reportedly, the conductor told her, "If you don't have the money, why did you board the bus?" and asked her to get off the bus in the middle of a hot afternoon. The elderly woman calmly took back her ₹30 and replied: "My child, I have the money. But I will not pay ₹50 for a ₹30 fare. I'd rather take another bus." My friend Rekha even offered to pay the extra ₹20, but the grandmother politely refused. She didn't get off the bus because she couldn't afford ₹20 more. She got off because she refused to compromise her self-respect. If the fare was truly ₹50, it should have been clearly displayed inside the bus. And if it was ₹30, then no senior citizen deserves such treatment. Fare charts should be displayed clearly in every bus to avoid confusion, arguments, and humiliation of passengers. A society is judged not by how it treats the powerful, but by how it treats its elderly. What are your thoughts? The recently concluded Linda Mwananchi rally has exposed years of marginalisation and unfair distribution if resources. Nyanza has been in the opposition for a greater part of tge time since independence and like Western Kenya, manny roads are in poor State. It does not matter whether you elect a good MP or not as the roads ajd other infrastructure construction are determined by the regimes in power. Equalization fund distribution has nothing to do with a good MP, your good MP will do very little if you continue ti be in the opposition. To do major roads, you need government goodwill, CDF cannot tarmac major roads in a constituency. Nyanza has suffered more misery and unending poor leadership. It is unacceptable. What do yiu think we can do to change the state of infrastructure in Nyanza? Do you think we should join government or stay in opposition?
