Bridges have been the single biggest category of DeFi losses cumulatively.
$2-3 billion in hacks since 2021.
Unfortunately, much of the story of how we scaled DeFi over the past several year was through bridges.
I'd estimate 35% of DeFi TVL today has some third-party non-native bridge dependency today (e.g. a Kelp + L0 style architecture).
We adopted third-party bridges for two reasons: 1) we needed to scale via L2s because Ethereum L1 wasn't scaling and 2) L2 native bridges mostly sucked due to pre-zk optimistic rollup tech (e.g. 7 day withdrawal windows).
Then we pretended the added complexity and dependencies didn't materially increase risk to DeFi.
And so we adopted daisy chained assets like L2 rsETH as practically the risk equivalent to ETH on L1. And we wove this risk into the system.
We'll learn from this. We'll price risk more effectively. DeFi will adapt.
But this is a painful setback and there will be more to come if we don't minimize bridge dependencies.
Scaling the L1 is a security priority.
We can't build DeFi on rickety bridges.
Tom Lee stated today that he believes the market will still test the new Fed Chair, but then we will go on to have, “one of the best 18-24 month periods we have seen in our life”

BitMine provided its latest holdings update for April 20, 2026:
$12.9 billion in total crypto + "moonshots":
- 4,976,485 ETH at $2,301 per ETH (@coinbase)
- 199 Bitcoin (BTC)
- $200 million stake in Beast Industries @MrBeast
- $107
Security issues are the largest obstacle to truly scalable, crypto adoption.
Unfortunately, it’s been a very rough month for crypto security…
@DriftProtocol: On April 1, 2026, attackers drained approximately $285 million in user assets from Drift Protocol — the largest decentralized perpetual futures exchange on @solana — in roughly 12 minutes, with most stolen funds bridged to Ethereum within hours.
@KelpDAO: An attacker drained 116,500 rsETH (restaked ether) from Kelp DAO’s @LayerZero_Core-powered bridge at 17:35 UTC on Saturday, April 18, worth roughly $292 million — about 18% of rsETH’s 630,000 token circulating supply.
The status quo isn’t cutting it, ladies and gentlemen.
For starters, I think we need to bolster the CLARITY act with a scalable, private sector - led recovery program.

At 15 years old, Liv Perrotto’s biggest dream was to meet @elonmusk. She had even written out a list of questions to ask him. Her mother @rebeccaperrotto told me that just days before she passed away from cancer, she had a chance to speak with Elon, but she was too tired and

I have seen a lot of "solutions" to the identity and verification stack, and what @worldnetwork announced today with World ID 4.0, actually feels like it could succeed.
The issue I have seen mostly is this:
- Great open source and permissionless idea
- Lack of proper funding to get it adopted where it will matter
- A lot of competition with no real moat
- Bad monetization
World ID 4.0 has answers for all of this:
1. Open source ID
2. Fees charged only to apps not users
3. Massive partnerships with huge well known companies dealing with the identity crisis
There is still a lot to prove, a lot to build, and more unforeseen challenges I am sure, but I have hope that we may have a solution to the growing problem of bots, agents, and scammers.
Their Lift Off event gave me hope, and even some excitement. Hats off to the team!

The update enhances its “proof-of-human” World ID system, aiming to verify real users online as AI-generated content surges.
Great World ID Lift Off event today
