Of all of the ridiculous deals this summer, this Savinho one I just can't get my head around. I just don't get it. City signed him for about £30m, he's done basically nothing in two years, scored 2 PL goals and he goes for way more than double the price. A player is worth what a club is willing to pay, I've always said that. And he might be brilliant for Spurs and prove to be worth every penny in the long run under a manager like De Zerbi, whose excellent at getting the best out of players. But I just can't see how they have justified that price to themselves now and given it the green light. It's absolutely insane money for an attacker with his output.

You can’t reasonably price goods in a country where a tiny but impactful percent of the population operates in a criminal economy that is disconnected from everyday reality. It's part of why real estate prices keep escalating in a country with multidimensional poverty.

Blowing smoke up one’s ass. “Chairman!” “Oga ndi oga!” “After you, na God!” Overwrought. Gratuitous. Meaningless. Mr President was doing his job. And one does not applaud a tenor for clearing his throat. Such obsequiousness that fetishizes people at the top stripping them of understanding of their basic responsibilities and the gravity, complexity and sacredness of their role have no room in a democratic system that needs to build strength to serve its true purpose. If someone in your house looks dead, don't call the police. You are automatically digging your grave, if you know how Nigerian Police takes these matters especially if you don't have money. You go suffer. Under the law, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty, but once you report to the police you will be presumed guilty until proven innocent which can take years. Take the person to the nearest hospital, it is the duty of a doctor to declare someone dead and also since you are not a doctor, you may be wrong to think the person is already dead. Taking the person to the hospital gives them a chance to be resuscitated by the doctors and if they fail to revive the person, they can then declare the person dead. That is when you can then call your lawyer. I wish the Gen Z and millennial generations would understand what is happening in this country. Someone stole 210 trillion naira from the NNPC. That is three times the combined annual budgets of Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Uganda. Someone stole it, and Akpabio and co are shielding him from questioning. The country acts as if he did nothing wrong, no protests, no action, just silence. Next, Tinubu will award him an OON for being a patriotic leader. Nigeria is crazy jungle!

This man is so consumed by power and presidential vanity that he’s naming a publicly funded road after himself complete with his full title: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.” The road is barely 10% complete. Yet the giant signpost is already up. One can almost picture him cruising past it, grinning at his own name, whispering, “This is my legacy.” In my adult life, I’ve never seen anything this brazen in a democracy. This is the kind of behavior you expect from Saddam, Gaddafi, or other dictators desperate to etch their names into permanence. In actual democracies, roads and monuments are usually named after leaders after they’re gone not while they’re still alive and the project is half-finished. Only a pathological toponymic narcissist adds “President” and “GCFR” to a road sign. Bola Tinubu just did exactly that.
