Here's the real story behind each of these crashes: 1994–1998, down 76% over 1,276 days This is the Asian Financial Crisis. Korea had been running large current account deficits funded by short term foreign debt, much of it in dollars. When Thailand's baht collapsed in July 1997, capital fled the entire region. The won crashed, Korean banks and conglomerates couldn't roll over their dollar debt, and Korea ended up needing a $58 billion IMF bailout in December 1997, still one of the largest in history at the time. 2007–2008, down 57% over 371 days The Global Financial Crisis. This wasn't Korea specific, it was the US subprime mortgage collapse and the Lehman Brothers failure spreading worldwide. Korea got hit hard anyway because it's an export heavy economy tied closely to global trade and capital flows, so when global credit froze and demand for exports crashed, KOSPI fell right alongside every other major index. 2018–2020, down 44% over 730 days This box actually covers two separate shocks bundled together. 2018 brought the US-China trade war, which hit Korean exporters caught in the crossfire between the two economies. Then just as that pressure was easing, COVID-19 hit in early 2020, causing the sharpest global market crash in decades as economies shut down worldwide. 2026, down 41% in just 40 days This is the one we've been covering. A parabolic AI driven rally hit an all time high of 9,385 in June, then unwound fast on a combination of Wall Street reassessing AI capex payoffs (hitting chip heavy Samsung and SK Hynix hardest), a Bank of Korea rate hike to fight Iran war driven inflation, and program selling amplifying every leg down. The pattern across all four, Korea's market always falls harder and faster than most because of how concentrated it is in exports and semiconductors. What's different this time is the speed, the fastest crash of the four by a wide margin.

There are no shorts left to liquidate 🤡 A bigger crash is coming next 🤡 If that's the case, why is there 20x more liquidity to the upside? Max pain here is not a crash but a massive pump.

COLDCARD BUG DEMO: Duplicate Wallet Found in 4.7 Seconds Developer John S built a simulator to illustrate the severity of the COLDCARD entropy bug. On an M1 Max, it found two identical wallet seeds after generating about 1.26 million seeds, taking just 4.7 seconds. Statistically, a duplicate seed would be expected roughly once every 1.3 million wallet generations under the simulated 40-bit entropy model. He says the most concerning part is that this kind of test could have been run in seconds on simulated hardware, or over a few days on the actual STM32 chip. According to him, developers likely never performed it because they assumed the hardware RNG could never fail so dramatically. He believes hardware wallet testing should include “complete idiot” unit tests that assume even seemingly impossible failures can happen.

Made a little program that shows how bad the coldcard bug is. A duplicate wallet on average would have been created every ~1.3 million seed generations. Took 4.7 seconds to find a collision on my M1 Max...

⚠️ $38M stolen from Coldcard wallets. An attacker exploited a flaw in Coldcard's key generation to steal 594 $BTC (~$38M) from around 500 single-signature wallets in a 25-minute sweep. The vulnerability affected wallet seeds generated on Coldcard Mk3 devices running firmware 4.0.1 or later. Coinkite says Mk4, Q, and Mk5 are not affected based on its early analysis. The attacker consolidated 562 $BTC into a single address, which has not moved.
