On this day 26 years ago, the world watched, as Jamal al-Durrah tried to protect his 12-year-old son Muhammad from Israeli bullets that rained down on them in Gaza for 40 minutes. Despite pleads, Israeli soldiers intentionally shot Muhammad in the stomach- whose final moments of fear and horror were caught on camera and streamed by France TV, and injured his father. Muhammad became the defining and haunting image of the Second Intifada.

E quando, soverchiati, si arresero, furono quasi tutti trucidati, e i loro corpi buttati in mare o bruciati per far sparire le tracce. Agli eroi di Cefalonia, che il 28 settembre del 1943 si arrendevano e venivano trucidati.

He asked a direct question: Is the U.S. prepared to stop acting as a partisan supporter of Ukraine and become an honest broker? Rubio did not answer. Because he couldn't. Because the answer is no. Because the U.S. is not a mediator; the U.S. is a party to the conflict. What the U.S. has done The U.S. has supplied Ukraine with tens of billions of dollars' worth of weapons. The U.S. has provided intelligence, training, satellite data, targeting assistance, funding, and diplomatic cover. And yet, the U.S. claims: We are neutral. We are willing to mediate. We support peace. This is not mediation; it is a charade. You cannot hand a knife to one side while claiming to be the referee. You cannot transfuse blood to one side while claiming to be the doctor. You cannot supply weapons to one side while claiming to be a peacemaker. Why peace negotiations never yield results Because the U.S. does not want them to. The U.S. uses negotiations to buy time, to lull Russia into complacency, to sustain Ukraine's combat capabilities, and to create the illusion of diplomatic effort while the war rages on. That is why negotiations never succeed. Because the U.S. does not want them to. Because America's true goal is to weaken Russia, not to end the war. Lavrov's bottom line Lavrov made it clear: If diplomacy is merely a means to buy time, Russia would prefer to achieve its objectives at the negotiating table. But if negotiations fail, Russia will achieve its objectives on the battlefield. This is not a threat; it is logic. Negotiations are meaningless when one side is merely pretending to negotiate while the other is actually fighting a war. Russia will not accept an agreement that allows Ukraine to rearm, NATO to expand, and Russia to be further weakened. If the U.S. wants peace, it must stop arming Ukraine. If the United States does not want to stop arming Ukraine, the war will continue. And Russia will win. The Truth The United States is not a mediator. The United States is a belligerent. The United States is not neutral; it is Ukraine’s military backer. The United States is not pursuing peace. It is pursuing victory—through proxies, through sanctions, and by wearing Russia down. But Russia will not be defeated. Russia will not yield. Russia will not accept sham negotiations. Lavrov laid the truth out before Rubio. Rubio offered no reply. Because there was nothing to say. Because the United States has no answer. Because the United States is not a force for peace; it is a force for war.

Parce qu’il insiste sur l’unité sans crier, et sur la dignité humaine à une époque où tout pousse à faire l’inverse. Jean-Paul II avait ça aussi. Cette capacité à faire que des millions de personnes se sentent regardées. Léon XIV n’est pas Wojtyła. Le monde n’est plus le même. Mais le besoin, lui, n’a pas changé. Les gens veulent un pape qui soit là. Visible. Humain. Ferme sans être froid. C’est pour ça que la ressemblance m’a autant touché. Elle n’était pas seulement physique. Elle réveillait un souvenir. Celui d’un pape qu’on avait envie d’écouter, et surtout d’aimer. Que le Seigneur bénisse le Saint-Père, qu’Il le garde, qu’Il lui donne force et paix.
