Very expensive mistake In 2003, the Bank of Canada sold its last major holdings of gold. Since then the purchasing power of the Cdn dollar has fallen by roughly 68–72% due to inflation. The price of gold in Cdn dollars has risen 680% to 720%. Had the BoC kept that gold, it would be worth over 7x more today.
