The idea that it's "empowering" to have 50 partners started as cope by powerful women. The same wiring that lets a woman hook up with a guy and feel nothing (in a world where this is taboo) also makes her more likely to claw her way up in media, business, and academia. It's the same as fat acceptance. These women can't admit their own habits were destructive, so they broadcast to everyone that sleeping around is actually great for you instead.

Dumb for a few reasons. People look different in person than in photos. You can get rejected on photo quality, not just your face. Women are attracted to aura and charisma too, and none of that comes through a phone screen, so you can make a way better impression in person. Walking up to her also takes balls, and confidence is attractive on its own. Yeah, if she thinks you're nasty, you're cooked either way. It would be trivial for Bumble to check how many faces are in a photo and disallow group pics from the top slot. Instead, I waste time squinting to work out which girl in the group is the one I'm looking at. (It's never the one you want). The bad UX is better for engagement.

I really think, up to a point, you have to get over this stuff. Yeah, young people do dumb things. Banging tons of girls wasn’t an option for me at 19 because I was socially incompetent.
