On Monday, November 24, 2025, the Port of Montego Bay successfully resumed cruise calls, welcoming the Mein Schiff 1. This marks the port's first operation since the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Under the oversight of the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), teams across marine services, terminal operations, and passenger facilitation worked seamlessly to ensure safe, efficient, and well-coordinated activity. Captain Giorgos Dimou highlighted the vessel's additional role in delivering essential relief items, underscoring the strong partnership between the cruise line and Jamaica's national recovery efforts. This visit formed part of a home-porting operation, where the cruise ship begins and ends its itinerary in Jamaica, bringing additional economic benefits as passengers book local hotels (pre/post cruise), dine at restaurants, and engage with the surrounding communities. This morning, the Port of Montego Bay marked a critical milestone in our recovery with the arrival of the vessel, Mein Schiff. As the first cruise ship call since Hurricane Melissa, its presence is a powerful signal that routine cruise shipping operations has restarted at the Port of Montego Bay. The PAJ team commenced the day with a courtesy visit with the Captain Georgios Dimou, not only to extend our gratitude for maintaining the itinerary with the call, but also to reaffirm the deep, long-term commitment to Jamaica. The arrival of the Mein Schiff at Montego Bay is far more significant than a standard port call. The vessel call was part of an homeporting operation, a shipping activity which is facilitated at the Port of Montego Bay. What is Homeporting? Homeporting means the cruise ship begins and ends its multi-day itinerary right here in Jamaica, making Montego Bay its base of operations. Guests fly directly into Montego Bay’s airport specifically to board the cruse ship. Guests often arrive a day early or stay a day late, booking into local hotels, eating at restaurants, and shopping before or after their cruise. What’s the economic benefit if homeporting? 1. Guaranteed work: Provides stable, long-term bookings for local taxi operators and tour companies. 2. Increased spending: Passengers fly into Jamaica, often staying in local hotels (pre/post-cruise), resulting in much more direct cash pumped into the local economy; local businesses and livlihoods. 3. Local supply chain: Requires local businesses to provide the ship with food, fuel, and provisioning services weekly.

Ms Mein Schiff 3 (ca. 2500 pax.) van TUI Cruises ligt vrijdag 2 mei plm. 08:00 tot 20:00 aan de kade bij Cruise Port Rotterdam. Fijn! Ze was in 2022 voor het eerst in Rotterdam. In dat jaar lag ze ook samen met Mein Schiff 4 aan de kade. In oktober zien we haar weer! (Zie ook Fb)
