New HiS Research: The “Big 3” Have Had a Remarkable Run, But Opportunities Are Now Likely to Be Found Elsewhere While the TSX "Big 3" sectors (Financials, Energy, and Materials) have driven much of the market's recent strength, their outperformance appears stretched by historical standards. We believe opportunities going forward are likely to be found outside these sectors, particularly among stocks offering an attractive combination of value, earnings growth, and dividend growth. Highlights: The relative outperformance of Financials, Energy, and Materials versus the rest of the TSX is near historical extremes. Historically, similar periods of extreme leadership have been followed by stronger relative performance from non-MEF stocks over the subsequent 6-12 months. Several non-MEF sectors continue to exhibit attractive fundamentals despite receiving far less investor attention than the TSX's traditional leaders. New HiS Research: Addressing the Prospect of Peak EPS Growth Concerns surrounding peak EPS growth are likely overstated and should not be viewed as a sell signal for equities. While quarterly earnings growth may moderate from exceptionally strong levels, profit growth is expected to remain historically healthy, and past periods of peak earnings growth have generally coincided with continued market gains. Highlights: 1Q earnings season was historically strong with growth, beats, and positive surprises reaching some of their best levels in decades. Peak quarterly EPS growth has historically not marked the end of bull markets, with the S&P 500 continuing to generate positive returns in prior peak growth years. Trailing one-year earnings growth is not expected to peak until late 2026, and market returns have historically remained constructive both leading into and following prior earnings peaks.
