Ze vormen steeds minder een tegenmacht en steeds vaker een verlengstuk van hetzelfde bestuurlijke ecosysteem dat zij geacht worden te controleren. Het mechanisme is even simpel als effectief. De overheid verstrekt subsidies. Met dat belastinggeld bouwen deze organisaties omvangrijke bureaucratieën op, produceren zij rapporten, leveren zij de data waarop beleid wordt gebaseerd, adviseren zij over vergunningen en starten zij juridische procedures om nóg strengere regelgeving af te dwingen. Dat leidt vervolgens weer tot meer beleid, meer ambtenaren, meer subsidies en meer invloed. Een zichzelf versterkende cirkel waarin vrijwel iedereen binnen het systeem wint, behalve de belastingbetaler. In dossiers als stikstof zien we hoe gesubsidieerde organisaties wetenschappelijke gegevens aanleveren, overheden adviseren, vergunningen beïnvloeden, juridische procedures starten en vervolgens aanschuiven bij de onderhandelingen over de uitkomst. Wanneer overheid, subsidieontvangers, beleidsmakers en lobbyisten steeds vaker onderdeel zijn van hetzelfde netwerk, verdwijnt de institutionele afstand die een gezonde rechtsstaat juist nodig heeft. De slachtoffers zijn voorspelbaar: boeren die geen vergunning krijgen, bouwers die projecten stil moeten leggen, ondernemers die investeren in permanente juridische onzekerheid en burgers die steeds hogere belastingen betalen om een uitdijend netwerk van subsidieafhankelijke organisaties te financieren. De Nederlandse polder verandert zo van een systeem van checks and balances in een gesloten bestuurlijk kartel. Dit is geen aanval op natuur, milieu of maatschappelijke organisaties. Integendeel. Een vrije samenleving heeft juist behoefte aan krachtige, onafhankelijke NGO’s. Maar onafhankelijkheid begint bij financiële onafhankelijkheid. Wie grotendeels wordt betaald door de overheid kan onmogelijk volledig onafhankelijk toezicht houden op diezelfde overheid. Libertariërs waarschuwen hier al decennia voor. Macht concentreert zich altijd wanneer geld, regelgeving, wetenschap, rechtspraak en lobby in hetzelfde ecosysteem samenkomen. Daarom is de oplossing helder: volledige transparantie over financiering, een strikte scheiding tussen subsidieverstrekking en politieke lobby, geen structurele overheidssubsies voor organisaties die actief beleid proberen te beïnvloeden en een rechtsstaat waarin gekozen volksvertegenwoordigers de koers bepalen, niet een gesloten netwerk van overheid, gesubsidieerde actiegroepen en belangenorganisaties. Im Hintergrund läuft eine Transparenz-Pflicht, die jede Position sichtbar macht. Wer das noch Steuerreform nennt, hat den Begriff verloren. Es ist eine kontrollierte Demontage des privaten Vermögensaufbaus, durchgesetzt mit dem freundlichsten Wording, das die EU-Bürokratie zu bieten hat. Am Ende traf es immer die Mitte - den Handwerker mit abbezahltem Haus, den Unternehmer mit drei Mitarbeitern, die Erbengeneration, deren Eltern vierzig Jahre gespart haben. Das jetzige Steuerpaket reiht sich nahtlos in diese Logik ein. Die Stoßrichtung ist dieselbe wie immer: weiterer Zugriff, mehr Transparenz, einheitlich höhere Mindestsätze, verkauft mit der Begründung, es gehe um Solidarität und das größere Ganze. Brüssel weiß genau, was es tut. Die ehrliche Frage ist nicht, ob diese Pakete kommen. Sie kommen. Sie brauchen Jahre, aber sie kommen, und einmal beschlossen geht keiner mehr zurück.

A double shockwave has just hit both Washington and Riyadh. According to a report by WSJ, Iran struck five U.S. aerial refueling aircraft stationed inside Saudi Arabia at Prince Sultan Air Base. For years, Saudi officials have insisted, over and over again, that their territory is not being used for hostile operations against Iran. Meanwhile, Persian Gulf media endlessly repeat the narrative that Iran is the destabilizing force threatening the Arab world. But let's ask the obvious question. What exactly are U.S. refueling aircraft doing on Saudi soil? Their purpose is obviously not humanitarian. Their sole operational role is to keep combat aircraft in the air longer, aircraft that carry out military strikes. In other words, the infrastructure for attacking Iran has been sitting comfortably inside Saudi territory all along. And the exposure did not come from Iranian media. It came from the WSJ and then Reuters picked up the story. Mind you, Washington has been insisting that the recent crash of a U.S. refueling aircraft Boeing KC‑135R Stratotanker in Iraq, and the fire aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, were unrelated accidents. According to the official U.S. line, these were simply "non-hostile incidents". Convenient timing, no? An aircraft carrier suddenly catches fire. A strategic tanker aircraft crashes over Iraq. Six pilots are dead. And we're expected to believe none of it has anything to do with the war currently unfolding. Yet the WSJ revelations punch a massive hole in the narrative pushed by Donald Trump and his administration, that U.S. losses are minimal and Iran is supposedly "on the verge of collapse". Reality on the ground, well in the air, appears very different. Iran's strikes are not random missile launches, as hostile media outlets often claim. They appear focused on the logistical backbone of U.S. air power: aerial refueling aircrafts, namely the pride of the American military industrial complex, the Boeing KC‑135R Stratotanker. Disable the tankers, and the entire architecture of long-range air operations begins to crumble. Five tankers reportedly hit in Saudi Arabia. Another one brought down over Iraq. Yet Washington still refuses to acknowledge the scale of the damage. Why? Because admitting it would mean admitting something far more uncomfortable: that Iran has managed to penetrate some of the most advanced air defense networks in the world. And suddenly the myth of absolute American military invulnerability starts to crack. Look at the geography of what is unfolding. From MBS's Riyadh to Netanyahu's Tel Aviv. From MBZ's Al Dhafra base to Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's Juffair. From Iran's Strait of Hormuz to Yemen's Red Sea. (Fyi Yemen announced its readiness to engage..soon) Never in modern Middle Eastern history has a regional power directly challenged U.S. military infrastructure across such a vast arc. This is precisely why hostility toward Iran is so intense. The United States sees the only regional actor capable of contesting its military dominance. Israel sees the only state willing to challenge its strategic supremacy. And some Persian Gulf monarchies see something even more unsettling: a future where the protection they once purchased with looted oil wealth may no longer guarantee their survival. So, the same states that launch military operations from their territory against Iran, ask the world to believe they are innocent bystanders. And that contradiction is becoming harder and harder to hide, because the real question is no longer who fired the missiles. The real question is who built the battlefield in the first place. And increasingly, the answer points not outward, but inward, toward regimes that opened their doors to foreign militaries while claiming to defend the region. History has a way of exposing these contradictions. And when it does, narratives collapse faster than air defenses.
