Some thoughts on Michigan Senate results and more: · There’s an anger across the country – not just among Democratic primary voters – against establishment politics, special interests, and big money. The anger directed at AIPAC and U.S. policy on Israel-Palestine is one part of a broader revolt against the political establishment and the role of money in politics. · Even by spending tens of millions of dollars, AIPAC can’t defend a status quo that overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters have already rejected – and the effort is damaging not only its own credibility, but the very foundations of the U.S.-Israel relationship. It needs to stop. · The task now for Democrats on opposite sides of these primaries – and who disagree on Israel-Palestine – is to bridge the divisions, not further deepen them, and to unite around the need to defend American democracy against a MAGA movement determined to undermine it. Beyond politics, we need to forge a new approach towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict across ideological lines that breaks with the policies of the past, unites most Democrats and even some Republicans and leads to a better future where Israelis and Palestinians can both live in freedom and security.

what does the term "socialist" even mean? 'communist"? "capitalist"? these are ideas that are implemented by human beings in relationship to contexts in which there is debate, disagreement, compromise, adjustments. a political leader may have an idea about "welfare"--"free public transportation"--"universal health care"--but the idea is worked out in detail over months if not years. the idea is opposed, there is debate, voters vote; if it doesn't work out, it is jettisoned for other ideas. any political idea or idealism has no existential reality without being put to the test. since every attempt to establish communism through force, in a state, has failed disastrously, it is not likely that "communism" per se is any threat to anyone, seriously. "capitalism" has been modified constantly through taxes, regulations, etc., yet as an idea it is still viable, practical. "socialist" ideas are everywhere, like the air we breathe. demonizing sincere attempts to remedy crises is not helpful when the present state for so many Americans desperately needs to be improved.
