Rachel Reid was interviewed by @CBCNews about her generous donation to the Annapolis Valley Regional Library system: “I heard about the five branches that were closing, and I just think libraries are so important. I think they’re absolutely an essential service that needs to be properly funded, especially in rural areas and smaller towns. “I don’t know if I can actually keep these branches open or not, but I wanted to help as much as I could, and I knew that the amount of money that they needed was an amount of money that I could provide. “I just feel like I had to do it. I don't know what the point is of being a successful author in Nova Scotia if you're not going to use it for good. "I want to continue to live in Nova Scotia, but I do feel that lately there’s been a lot of government decisions that have made it less appealing to live in Nova Scotia. And this is one of them. “I want to do what I can to help, but I also think private donations can't replace government policy, which is where this funding should be coming from. "Really, my goal was to try and do what I could to keep these branches open for now, and then maybe raise enough awareness to make sure that this problem doesn’t happen again when these kinds of decisions are made by the government next year. "When I was a kid, you know I grew up in Bedford, Nova Scotia, and I was at that Bedford Library all the time taking out as many books as they'd let me at a time and burning through them. "A lot of those books are what initially inspired me to want be an author. I understand what you’re saying, and I think we may just be talking about two different things. I don’t consider calling myself a sex worker to be reducing myself to sex, any more than calling myself a teacher means teaching encompasses the entirety of who I am. It describes work I do, not the total sum of my identity. I also don’t think the amount of emotional connection someone has with a client determines whether she is more than a sex worker. Some providers cultivate genuine friendships and long term relationships with clients, others intentionally maintain firmer emotional boundaries. Both approaches are valid, and neither makes one woman more compassionate, respectable, or multidimensional than the other. I absolutely agree that companionship and human connection can be a significant part of this work, I’ve experienced that myself. Where I differ is in seeing sex worker as something we need to graduate beyond or replace with a more respectable term. To me, there’s nothing inherently disrespectful about the term in the first place. And that was really the point of my original post, we’re already whole, complex human beings. The problem isn’t what we call ourselves. It’s when other people hear sex worker and decide that one occupation gives them permission to reduce an entire person to sex and violent degradation anti sex work individuals jump to when describing who and what sex workers are.

There’s something deeply bizarre about how anti sex work people will claim to be morally scandalized by the industry, then immediately reach for the most graphic, pornographic language imaginable when speaking over actual sex workers. For people supposedly horrified by sexual explicitness, they sure do seem remarkably committed to making every conversation about us as sexually graphic as possible. It’s gross. And the lack of self awareness is spectacular.

to expand on this: i believe feral femininity is a corrected version of divine femininity, and it is the direction the collective feminine is organically headed to at the current moment. it’s the natural path for any woman who has decentered men, mourned the truth of being a woman, learned how to keep herself physically and emotionally safe within her societal context, and settled into her sovereignty. i genuinely think there is no other possible conclusion to this pipeline. you will always arrive at the wild woman. 'Women Who Run with the Wolves' set the stage for this: there is an instinctual, wild nature in women that culture buries under layers of pacification and conditioning, and women's psychological and spiritual health depend entirely on the active rejection of said mechanisms. a woman who answers to no external validating force, who doesn't allow herself to be domesticated so that she can become more palatable, who doesn't perform or neglect herself for the sake of a lasting partnership, will naturally revert to instinct and appetite. that is what's left when the layer of societal management is removed. we tend to go back to our wild, feral ways because they were always our true nature.

Went on a date with a guy way younger than me last night He picked the restaurant based on my food allergies (asked in advance so there'd be zero stress). Showed up seven minutes early. Pulled my chair out, then acted totally normal about it, like it wasn't a whole performance. Ordered a bottle of wine and let me pick it.
