Over the last 3 weeks I’ve told my mother’s story of escape from Nazi Germany to more than 1600 school students and adults. Once in #norfolk nine times in #suffolk and three times in Northern Ireland. Now I can catch my breath. @116ARP @TheAJR_ @NetworkSecond @Gen2GenUK
In den letzten Wochen ist in Deutschland eine beeindruckende Zahl von Menschen auf die Straße gegangen, um der hasserfüllten Rhetorik der Rechtsextremisten entgegenzutreten. Hunderttausende protestieren gegen Rassismus, Antisemitismus und Fremdenfeindlichkeit.
Diese beispielhafte Manifestation der Stärke der ‚schweigenden‘ Mehrheit wird nicht nur den Menschen in Deutschland Zuversicht geben.
Sondern auch viele Menschen in anderen Ländern, die sich mit Rechtspopulismus und Nationalismus auseinandersetzen müssen, ermutigen, sich für ihre Werte und Überzeugungen gegen spaltende Ideologien einzusetzen.
Deutschland und das deutsche Volk haben wertvolle Lehren aus ihrer furchtbaren Geschichte sowie aus dem jahrzehntelangen Kampf gegen Diskriminierung, Vorurteile und Intoleranz gelernt und diese Lehren spiegeln sich in der klaren Haltung wider die jetzt so viele eingenommen haben.
Aber die Bekämpfung von Rassismus Fremdenfeindlichkeit und Antisemitismus sind andauernde Herausforderungen die noch nicht bewältigt sind. Wir hoffen, dass Deutschland weiterhin seine maßgebliche Rolle im Kampf gegen Hass Diskriminierung und Vorurteile in all ihren Formen spielt.
Die Wiederbelebung unserer Verbindungen mit dem modernen Deutschland und die Entscheidung so vieler Nachkommen ehemaliger deutsch-jüdischer Bürger, die Wiedererlangung ihrer deutschen Staatsbürgerschaft zu beantragen, sind aufrichtige Beweise unseres Vertrauens.
Die Demonstrationen gegen Extremismus, an denen Hunderttausende Menschen in Deutschland in den vergangenen Wochen teilgenommen haben, geben uns die Zuversicht, dass dieses Vertrauen wohl begründet ist, und die Hoffnung, dass das Deutschland, dessen Teil wir sein wollen, gedeiht.
