I have finally finished my latest project to help record the Royal Marine history on Woodbury Common, Devon. I have made a video tour of the WW2 Dalditch RM training camp that was on the common. My video can be found here youtube.com/watch?v=gu502J…@RoyalMarines @RMHistSociety
My display at a local museum on Saturday. Only a small display of some of my collection, and the event gave me the chance to wear my all original #WW2 Battledress for the first time.
Everything is original, including a 1944 dated blouse and 1942 dated trousers. #ArmedForcesDay
@RightJDH I tried to explain to them that it’s something official and pointed out to them the constabulary coat of arms on it. They were having none it, no deviation from their little lists at all, and their word was final. I was so pissed off I walked out, forgetting to query it. 🙄
@RightJDH I thought it would, being a police issued doc, even though a F/L is not on the list of ‘approved’ ID. I saw 4 people at the Poll. Station, all said “Not seen one of those before. It’s not on the list, sorry.” and that was that. I’ve used it many times for ID, never a problem...
Bite the Bullet explores the impact of bullet damage through items in our collection, and this fragmented resin display shows the different sections inside a round of ammunition! #fragment#Museum30
A super little buy from the local dump the other day, for £3.😁 A pair of #FWW British long handled barbed wire cutters. They took a lot of cleaning as they were very cruddy - could hardly even see the arrow! Made by Charled Pugh Ltd, B'ham. #WW1#Bargain
Great spot from the car boot yesterday. A #WW1 pick axe dated 1917 for a fiver. It was plastered in 💩 coloured paint, which I’ve spent yesterday afternoon and most of today cleaning off. The last picture is what it was like! It’s cleaned up well I reckon. 😎 #FWW
A superb little find from last week, a #WW2 era 2 Inch Practice mortar bomb! Cleaned up incredibly well considering the awful soil. Markings can still be seen -
'2" MOR (something) & S' and dated '10/ 41'. As the fins are made of steel, that would date the fins to after Nov '43.
Great day showing some WW2 kit and deactivated weapons from my own collection in the courtyard of @ExmouthM for #ArmedForcesDay. Old meets current issue with a kit display by the #RoyalMarines from CTC Lympstone.
Just finished this little project for my WW2 collection/display. Rather pleased with how well it turned out! An 'exploded' view of the component parts of a 9x19mm pistol round, embedded inside a block of plastic. It goes well with the 1945 dated .303 I made in Lockdown! 😁
@sammysomme Looks like an early one, or even a pre-war trials rifle, with the round cocking piece, very early fore sight protector and the wood fore end cut lower to allow for a magazine cut off. :)
Merry Christmas everyone!!😁 Today is also my birthday. This is a slightly early Birthmas/Christday pressie from my mum, a deactivated Brandt 60mm mortar dated 1944! I haven't been able to find out much on this model of Brandt, do any weapon buffs have any further info on it?😁
Just finished today. A little stand for a plastic block I made encapsulating a #WW2 (1945) dated .303 round, showing its component parts. I also made a display board of WW2 British .303 makers using cartridges I found, as a companion piece. Will look great in my WW2 displays. 😎
