The Met says it has asked the 4 universities for “help and leadership” it says a Section 13 ban can be sought if conditions cannot prevent sufficiently serious disorder. @AndyBurnham @ShabanaMahmood: what legal options have been considered & will the relevant parliamentary committees be given a full account?

"Just ban it" That was a common response to us urging students not to hold a pro-Palestine protest on Oct 7. We can't ban protests & can only ask the Home Sec to do so if the risk of serious disorder is so high that it can’t be managed by conditions. That's not the case here.

@Lord_Sugar New security plan. Fund police & prison expansion through defence efficiencies & natural military turnover, use trained service personnel, build prison capacity, stop the boats, make deliberate document destruction an offence & expand controlled legal routes for genuine refugees.

Found the most cinematic medieval street in Italy. Can’t believe people actually get to live here. Dolceacqua, Italy. 🇮🇹

@JohnCleese @JohnCleese @GoodwinMJ If the reports are accurate, the issue isn't whether people can debate Muslim integration, they plainly can. The question is whether politically contentious views were appropriately presented at a police hate crime conference. @NYorksPolice should explain.

@David90shaw If reports are accurate, questions need answering about political impartiality in police training. @NYorksPolice should review what was said, why it was included and who approved it. Publicly funded training should be politically impartial.

It would be interesting for a whizz to work out what proportion of your actual ministerial activity is going towards defence/NATO/Russia/Ukraine, Middle East security, migration and border cooperation versus climate diplomacy.

Climate change is an urgent national security issue.

@Ed_Miliband Why don't you forget your old job and focus on the current job? In every sense your portfolio has other conventional national security issues which should be prioritised first and treat climate as one component of the broader foreign-policy agenda which is less important.

🇬🇧 BUILT IN BRITAIN: British supercar manufacturer McLaren is investing £500 MILLION in the UK and creating ONE THOUSAND new jobs! The largest financial commitment in the company's history - £500m across four UK sites - will ensure all future McLarens are British-built. The huge investment will enable the supercar manufacturer to: ✅ Build engines in-house for the first time in its history. ✅ Expand its vehicle assembly capacity (including a new factory) as the manufacturer broadens its portfolio with with a new generation of models, including a new Performance SUV. ✅ Scale its world-leading carbon fibre capability by doubling the size of its McLaren Composites Technology Centre in South Yorkshire. ✅ Build a new state-of-the-art paint shop, providing greater personalisation than ever before. ✅ Create 1,000 new jobs, safeguard existing roles and support at least 3,000 jobs in the wider UK economy. The investment has also funded a new design and innovation hub, the McLaren Creative Centre in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and a new testing and vehicle development site at MIRA in the Midlands.

@CarlDavies226 @Ed_Miliband @SecGenNATO Agreed Carl, UK has real shortages & readiness problems, but NATO is now the force model. Our F-35Bs, Type 45s, submarines, carriers, drones, intelligence and logistics add capability to an allied force. I'm accepting we now generate a punch together, not UK on it's own sadly.👍

UK defence is stretched but still packs a punch. There's no “Hunter-class” 5 Astutes? Both QE's were recently at sea. 47 F-35Bs are a joint RAF/RN force operating with NATO. We generate power with allies, not alone. Miliband should remember he’s Foreign Sec, not NATO Supreme Commander

@Ed_Miliband You cited 1,200 Palestinians killed since the ceasefire. What’s the civilian/combatant breakdown and evidence establishing responsibility? What security assessment supports your Israel policy? Former MI6 chief Sir Richard Dearlove warned of risks to UK-Israel intelligence. @CommonsForeign @CommonsDefence
