Said Mansour Rezk Abdelrazek, a 30-year-old Egyptian Christian convert, is imprisoned in Egypt after Russia deported him in 2024 despite his UNHCR refugee documentation. Said has faced years of persecution for leaving Islam, including arbitrary arrests, torture, abuse, forced divorce, separation from his young son, prolonged surveillance, denial of legal representation and repeated attempts to force him to renounce his Christian faith. After fleeing to Russia on a tourist visa, Said applied for asylum and was formally received into the Russian Orthodox Church. Russian authorities later jailed him for 11 months before revoking his refugee protection and deporting him to Egypt, reportedly citing concerns that his online criticism of Islam could provoke public unrest following threats from Muslim groups. He was arrested again immediately upon his return to Egypt and remains behind bars while his fiancée waits to reunite with him in Australia. More than 35,000 people have signed a petition by Coptic Solidarity calling for Said's immediate release.
