In 1991, Kevin Costner 🇺🇸 was not only the star of *The Bodyguard* but also its producer. He was convinced that the role of Rachel Marron had to go to Whitney Houston, even though she had never acted before. Warner Bros. wanted experienced actresses like Julia Roberts or Madonna, but Costner refused and delayed filming for a full year to wait for Whitney to finish her music tour. Whitney was terrified about making the leap into film. Sensing her insecurity, Costner made her a personal promise: he would guide her, look after her, and ensure she didn't embarrass herself. In return, he asked her not to take acting lessons and simply to be herself. Following the singer's tragic death in 2012, Whitney's family—particularly her cousin Dionne Warwick—asked Costner to speak at the funeral. He initially resisted, feeling unworthy, but eventually agreed. He delivered a historic speech lasting nearly 20 minutes in which he humanized the legend, revealing Whitney's deep insecurities to the world and uttering a phrase that would go down in history: "You were as good as you could be. You weren't just good enough; you were one of a kind." Decades later, Costner still remembers Whitney with immense devotion. قصة قصيرة: حافظة المرقوق في آخر زيارة. المرقوق الذي تعده أمي هو أكثر ما يمكن أن تسعد به أخي بندر, ليس لديها ما تملكه لتعبر له عن محبتها وشوقها غير أن تواظب على إعداده لترسله معي في كل مرة أزوره فيها في مستشفى المدينة الذي يبعد عن بلدتنا مسافة ثلاث ساعات. هل أعجبه المرقوق؟ هل أكله كله؟ هذا ما تسألني عنه أمي فور عودتي لتطمئن على ابنها وهي تفتح حافظة الطعام التي أرسلتها معي وبمقدار ما بقي في الحافظة من المرقوق تعرف تماما وضع بندر الصحي ومزاجه. كان المرقوق في بيتنا محل صراع بيني وبين أخي بندر حيث لا أستسيغه وتصر أمي على أن نتناوله لأن بندر يشتهيه أو أنها هي من تشتهيه له ولم أكن أشاركهم تناول المرقوق وأشعر بسبب ذلك بالغيرة والنقمة وكراهية مضاعفة للمرقوق وربما لبندر. الآن أنا أحمل حافظة المرقوق الذي لا أحبه وأعبر برائحته ممرات المستشفى في كل موعد زيارة ولم يكن الأمر يقتصر على ذلك العبء من تحمل رائحة أكرهها بل كنت أتناول ما تبقى في الحافظة لتطمئن أمي على بندر. في الزيارات الأولى بعد أن أدخل بندر إلى المسشفى كانت أمي تواظب على زيارته وتحمل له المرقوق بنفسها وتطعمه بيدها ولكن كان لزيارتها أثر عكسي فلم تعتد أمي على رؤية بندر طريحا ولم يعتد هو على أن يكون ضعيفا أمامها. أسر لي الطبيب بأن أختلق سببا لتقلص من زيارتها له وأن بندر تصبح حالته أسوأ بعد كل مرة تزوره فيها ومنذ ذلك الحين أصبحت تزوره بشكل أسبوعي وأحاول في كل زيارة أن أجعلها زيارة سريعة. تبكي أمي في كل مرة تعد فيها المرقوق ويكاد أن يفعلها بندر في كل مرة يفتح فيها الحافظة وأحاول جاهدا أن أدفعه لتناول المرقوق حتى لا أضطر لأن أشاركهم البكاء وأنا أتناول طعاما لا أحبه. في الزيارة الأخيرة لم أجد بندر على سريره فتركت حافظة المرقوق على السرير واتجهت لأسأل عنه وقيل لي بأنه نقل إلى العناية المركزة بعد أن ساءت حالته وقبل أن أصل إلى باب العناية كان بندر قد فارق الحياة. لا أذكر كم من ممر عبرت بعد ذلك ما أعلمه أن الهندسة المعمارية لتصميم مباني المستشفيات تضع في عين الإعتبار ممرات طويلة تكفي لتفريغ نوبة بكاء متصلة ولا يفوتها وضع مساند على جوانب تلك الممرات تساعد على مساندة المحزون ومنحه الوقت الذي يحتاجه من دون أن يشغل العاملين بحزن لا يعنيهم. كانت رائحة المرقوق هي من دلتني على غرفة بندر وكانت الحافظة التي أرسلتها معي أمي تنتظرني على السرير وكانت أمي هناك في البلدة تنتظر عودتي لتسألني وهي تفتح الحافظة: هل أعجبه المرقوق؟ هل أكله كله؟. ثلاث ساعات في طريق العودة وحافظة المرقوق على المقعد المجاور مثل جثمان, كيف سأخبر أمي بأن بندر لم يأكل المرقوق؟ أثقل من أن تنتظر خبرا سيئا هو أن تكون الوحيد الذي يحمله, إنه أمر يصادر حقك في الحزن والبكاء ويجعلك مواسيا في حزن تستحق من يواسيك فيه. لم يسبق لي أن حملت خبر موت أحد ولا أعلم كيف تحدث تلك الأمور فقد كان بندر هو من يتحمل كل مسؤولياتنا الاجتماعية وهذا ما يجعل أمي تمنحه أفضلية وتصر على أن نتناول المرقوق من أجله. حين وصلت إلى البيت دخلت بخفة من يخفي شيئا, وضعت الحافظة على طاولة الصالة وخرجت وأنا أسمع أمي تناديني وبكل جبن هربت من الموقف ولكن الحافظة قالت لها كل شيء حين فتحتها ورأت أن المرقوق لم يمس. كانت صرختها تكاد تخترقني وأنا أعبر الفناء هاربا من البيت الذي لم تعد رائحة المرقوق تنبعث فيه.

يُعد قوله تعالى ﴿مَا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِرَجُلٍ مِّن قَلْبَيْنِ فِي جَوْفِهِ﴾ نموذجاً فريداً يجمع بين الإعجاز البياني والطبي والتاريخي في نسق واحد، حيث نزلت الآية رداً على ادعاء “جميل بن معمر الفهري” الذي زعم بأن له قلبين لفرط ذكائه، فجاء النص القرآني لينفي هذه الأسطورة تاريخياً ويؤكد حقيقة علمية في آن واحد! وهي أنَّ جسد الرجل لا يمكن تشريحياً أن يحتوي على نظامين للنبض نظراً لتعارض الإشارات الكهربائية التي تضبط الحياة وهنا يتجلى الإعجاز في تخصيص “الرجل” بالذكر دون “الإنسان”، لأن المرأة هي الاستثناء الوحيد لهذه القاعدة كونها تحمل في جوفها وقت الحمل قلبين نابضين هما قلبها وقلب جنينها في تناغم مذهل لا يختل، مما يؤكد أنَّ الذي أنزل الكتاب هو ذاته الذي أتقن خلق الجسد، فسبحان من أحاط بكل شيء علماً.

A Norwegian neuroscientist spent 20 years proving that the act of writing by hand changes the human brain in ways typing physically cannot, and almost nobody outside her field has read the paper. Her name is Audrey van der Meer. She runs a brain research lab in Trondheim, and the paper that closed the argument was published in 2024 in a journal called Frontiers in Psychology. The finding is brutal enough that it should have changed every classroom on Earth. The experiment was simple. She recruited 36 university students and put each one in a cap with 256 sensors pressed against their scalp to record brain activity. Words flashed on a screen one at a time. Sometimes the students wrote the word by hand on a touchscreen using a digital pen, and sometimes they typed the same word on a keyboard. Every neural response was recorded for the full five seconds the word stayed on screen. Then her team looked at the part of the data most researchers had ignored for years, which is how different parts of the brain were communicating with each other during the task. When the students wrote by hand, the brain lit up everywhere at once. The regions responsible for memory, sensory integration, and the encoding of new information were all firing together in a coordinated pattern that spread across the entire cortex. The whole network was awake and connected. When the same students typed the same word, that pattern collapsed almost completely. Most of the brain went quiet, and the connections between regions that had been alive seconds earlier were nowhere to be found on the EEG. Same word, same brain, same person, and two completely different neurological events. The reason turned out to be something nobody had really paid attention to before her work. Writing by hand is not one motion but a sequence of thousands of tiny micro-movements coordinated with your eyes in real time, where each letter is a different shape that requires the brain to solve a slightly different spatial problem. Your fingers, wrist, vision, and the parts of your brain that track position in space are all working together to produce one letter, then the next, then the next. Typing throws all of that away. Every key on a keyboard requires the exact same finger motion regardless of which letter you are pressing, which means the brain has almost nothing to integrate and almost no problem to solve. Van der Meer said it plainly in her interviews. Pressing the same key with the same finger over and over does not stimulate the brain in any meaningful way, and she pointed out something that should scare every parent who handed their kid an iPad. Children who learn to read and write on tablets often cannot tell letters like b and d apart, because they have never physically felt with their bodies what it takes to actually produce those letters on a page. A decade before her, two researchers at Princeton ran the same fight using a completely different method and ended up at the same answer. Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer tested 327 students across three experiments, where half took notes on laptops with the internet disabled and half took notes by hand, before testing everyone on what they actually understood from the lectures they had watched. The handwriting group won by a wide margin on every question that required real understanding rather than surface recall. The reason was hiding in the transcripts of what the two groups had actually written down. The laptop students typed almost word for word, capturing more total content but processing almost none of it as they went, while the handwriting students physically could not write fast enough to transcribe a lecture in real time, which forced them to listen carefully, decide what actually mattered, and put it in their own words on the page. That single act of choosing what to keep was the learning itself, and the keyboard had quietly skipped the choosing and skipped the learning along with it. Two studies. Two countries. Same answer. Handwriting makes the brain work. Typing lets it coast. Every note you have ever typed instead of written went into your brain through a thinner pipe. Every meeting, every book highlight, every idea you captured on your phone instead of on paper was processed at half depth. You did not forget those things because your memory is bad. You forgot them because typing never woke the part of the brain that would have made them stick. The fix is the thing your grandmother already knew. Pick up a pen. Write the thing down. The slower road is the faster one.
