I grew up Muslim. Left at 19. On 9/11 I was a kid in a Muslim country. I asked my mom why bin Laden attacked America. Her answer was heartless. I witnessed a sentiment of pride and celebration in the Muslim society. Islam did 9/11 then justified it to kids like me. Watch.

One complaint I hear from right-leaning folks about American Muslims is that we make 9/11 more about Islamophobia than about the attack itself. My interpretation there is that American Muslims were in such a defensive crouch in the years after. We were in the habit of condemning every terror attack, starting up programs on "countering violent extremism," cooperating with authorities to identify potential threats, and trying to prove that we were good, moderate Muslims. I think we just got exhausted. And, well, I think we fight it somewhat depressing that 25 years after the attacks, anti-Muslim sentiment seems to be at an all-time high.

Cmon TJ, thats a little extreme in your approach of categorizing 2 billion plus folks. We can disagree on theology, but to blame a whole religion due to extremists own actions is unfair to Islam. And I've always engaged with you respectfully here and agree with many of your conservative viewpoints.
