I feel like people really underrate how big a of problem being out of office will be for Newsom in 2028. He’s mostly achieved success in building support through leveraging the office, and he’ll have been out of it for over year by time voting starts in the primaries.

It’s not like you could expect any better from Texas dems, but it’s kind of heartbreaking that a perfect storm election for dems, possibly the only winnable statewide race in Texas this decade, is just being thrown away for a the sake of a completely doomed candidate.

@ZFlawles1s It was to a lesser extent, but this also happened after 2016 and ignoring it worked, so they don’t have much incentive to not go with this (other than that a change in leadership would improve their 2026 position, but these people are hardcore careerists so they don’t care).
