PC Andrew Harper was dragged to his death at 42mph. His uniform was torn off and his injuries were so bad that first responders thought he was a deer carcass. The men who killed him showed zero remorse they even laughed in court. They got just 13 years each for manslaughter. Now, under Labour’s new early release scheme, two of them could walk free after only 6.5 years. This is a total insult to PC Harper, his family, and every police officer. Killing a cop and showing no regret should mean real time behind bars — not a slap on the wrist because prisons are full. How can any government release such evil monsters back onto this country’s streets especially after they have shown no remorse or empathy of their atrocious crimes. Any government that is prepared to release such evil into society is itself an enemy of the people.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say this. For years, Sunday nights meant Top Gear. We’d sit down at 8pm and watch Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May do what they did best. Now, through Clarkson’s Farm, Jeremy has introduced a whole new generation to the realities of British farming and earned the respect of millions all over again. So sad that Bob Harris has had to step down from broadcasting due to ill health.I have known Bob for years and appart from being a great broadcaster he was also a lovely gentle, kind man, and a friend. I will miss our chats every Sunday and I know he is going to miss doing his shows so much as he has a deep love for radio. I was talking on the phone to him last week and I know it was a difficult decision for him but quite rightly his health had to come first. We will all miss you at Radio2 Bob but we will keep in touch and I know you will fight and beat this horrible cancer.

When I was young. Children were seen and not heard. Children were toilet trained by the age of 2 or 3. Children were put to bed at 6pm after the Magic Roundabout. Children were taught to read, write, tell the time and tie their shoelaces before starting school. Children ate what was given to them at mealtimes or they went without. Children were given the cane or slipper at school for repeated instances of misbehaviour. Children were given a clip round the ear by the local bobby for scrumping. Children had to ask for permission to leave the table. Children were taught to always say please and thank you. And thank you for having me. Children walked, often a couple of miles, through the snow to school, and the school always remained open. Children who pinched stuff from shops were apprehended by store detectives and the police came. Children who got into trouble at school got into even more trouble when they got home. Children weren't given choices, playrooms or anything other than a birthday party at home. Children wore hand me downs, not £100 trainers. Children got pocket money to buy sweets or a comic, not an allowance. Children couldn't wait to get a job to earn their own money, a part of which was given to mum for 'keep'. Then I was old. And these are now just a dim and distant memory for most of us. And unbelievable to many more. These things will soon be consigned to the annals of time and to the pages of history books. Online, of course. People will gasp. Oh the horrors they endured! But the degradation of society will continue. And people won't be able to understand why. But we'll know.
