@_drew_p_weiner @JohnONolan NJ. I think it’s a pretty universal requirement for a 240v installation to require a certified electrician. Much to my annoyance after spending $800 on the thing and realising I had to spend almost the same again to plug the darn thing in. Works great though.

What’s this? The chances are your answer is a result of some historic mistake. The English call it a turkey because they mistook it for a version of a bird sold in Turkish markets, the US inherited that mistake. In Brazil it’s called a Peru because they thought it came from there. The French word comes from the idea the bird was Indian. It’s actually all North American. Every name it has derives from a lack of geographical knowledge that was wrong, even in its home country. And it’s stuck. I love language and its weirdness sometimes.

I never met Rod Liddle, but I've read almost every column he has written for the last ten years. A significant amount of it would be quite nasty to things I believe in or support, but the thing with Rod is you had to understand it was so often tongue in cheek, using humor and exaggeration to make a point. Which is why I enjoyed his writing so much, and was never offended by it. During my brief stint at the Press Complaints Commission he was the most popular writer, in terms of he was the one who received the most complaints. I cannot recall any of those being a breach of the code, and I was always quietly happy that he was allowed carry on regardless without restrictions from the regulator. I will miss reading his columns a huge amount.

@TheICHpodcast He’s equating spending with costs, and equating the media “empire” he is a part of as himself. He as a “brand” may well have $400k costs per month, but that’s no more a reflection on his own wealth than someone who works at Walmart saying they pay $1m a week on food and rent.
