The damage done here to the entire disabled community cannot be understated. It is already hard to get accommodations. Disabled people already face stigma and are too often accused of faking. When people do this shit, it sets us all back in devastating & compounding ways.

If you can "Pass" also, it makes you less willing to ask for accommodations because you feel like "wait, I look and sound like my abled classmates. I don't need this stuff." And so you dismiss it. I didn't ask for accommodations at @UNC until I knew I flunked a test.

This #collegeadmissionsscandal is exactly the problem. How can we navigate a re-evaluation of diversity admissions standards to include disability when we have assholes like these elitists faking disability to perpetuate fraud? We can’t. Just another barrier.

They still can succeed regardless of where they matriculate, but maybe we can start rewarding them for their perseverance. Maybe we can help fortify their self esteem.They are the future for the disabled community. They deserve better.

I am almost too enraged to even comment on this. My highly qualified disabled son just went through the application process and was denied admission to his first two choices. I am convinced that he was denied because he disclosed his ASD. No way to prove it, though.
