More immediately relevant is that fact that the "Stay out" campaign would say that we would be committing to join the Euro, and the Rejoin campaign would be forced into an endless round of "Well, yes we would, but technically..." And all the while, the EU would be watching the Rejoin campaign say that they intend to not honour the spirit of the solemn commitment that they are busy making to them.

@b_judah I do not, of course, say, and nor does the tweet say, that we can be forced into the euro in any circumstances. That would be an absurd thing for anyone to assert. But it’s more than theoretically possible that we would be asked to join the euro as a condition of accession.

People buy illicit vapes because it is cheaper, not because of some stamp. The worst way to deal with it is to levy quite a hefty sin tax which incentives people towards illicit products.

@RepealTCPA1947 This will just make airline tickets even more expensive. Airlines have tight profit margins and those extras give people an option to have cheaper tickets, without them they will increase the default ticket for everyone.

@PoliticsPollss No they should control immigration and make it easier to build houses. It is a supply and demand issue, not one of landlords being greedy. Besides, the vast majority of ecconomist dislike rent controls for good reason.

This will increase the price, airlines make a lot of profit on extras and it gives people the option to have cheaper airline tickets. They will put general ticket prices up higher in order to compensate.

There are no tariffs on car exports between UK/EU and all the vehicle regulation has stayed pretty much the same. Sunderland Nissan plant is still there and Nissan a fully committed to it with them just starting to build their new Kicks models. While the Nissan plant in Spain got shut down. Also, Farage was speculating based on the Yougov exit poll which had 52/48 the opposite way which is why he said looks like remain had edged it.

@Handre Jaguar already were doing badly before they stopped producing cars and launched that marketing campaign. Sales went down from 180k units in 2018-2019 to 66k in 2023/24 and were struggling to make a profit. That is why they went for such a drastic strategy.

You're confusing being conservative with being a passionate advocate for what used to be consensus positions across the polical spectrum: - freedom of expression - individual liberty - judging people on the content of their character instead of creating a race-based hierarchy - equality of opportunity for all - highly selective immigration policy that benefits the existing population (remember when the Left used to oppose mass immigration because they knew it drove down wages?) - defending Western civilisation against its ideological and kinetic enemies In an Immigrant's Love Letter to the West, I show that these positions were not just held but actively espoused by prominent left wing politicians in very recent history, including Obama and others. It's not my fault that all of these things are now threatened by a lunatic left, Islamists and a lunatic right. I remain liberal on sex, drugs, rock and roll, offensive humour etc. And on economic policy, I have actually become MORE liberal with time as I've run my own business and understood the impact of taxes and regulation. So no, I am not a conservative (not that there is anything wrong with it). I just happen to believe that woke lunacy is the enemy of all things liberal and oppose it for that very reason.

Check the Tesco prices without logging in and you get one price. Log in with a Welsh address and the price increases. Why? Because of the Senedd's minimum unit pricing law for alcohol. From today, the minimum price of a unit of alcohol in Wales has increased from 50p to 65p.

The Green Party's plan for a three-year emergency brake on rent increases is, of course, a terrible idea... Rents would not be allowed to increase by more than whichever is *lowest* out of CPI inflation, wage growth or 2% (a sort of 'triple lock'). Even ignoring the question of whether the state should dictate what people do with their own property, this would backfire. For a start, the inevitable speculation ahead of implementation would prompt more landlords to sell up (reducing rental supply), while others would charge a higher rent now so that any future increase would be from a higher base. Once the scheme is in place, it would distort the market further. Landlords would no longer be able to raise rents to cover cost increases above 2% (in contrast to how the Ofgem cap on energy bills works). This would make renting out property even riskier, reducing supply further. Nor would rents (ie prices) be able to respond to changes in national or local demand. In effect, the market would be stuck for at least three years (and probably longer, because 'temporary' measures have a habit of becoming permanent). Better solution? Allow supply to increase in response to demand - exactly the opposite of what the Grern policy would do...
