Government of Ghana resumes next phase of evacuations from South Africa following the latest wave of xenophobic attacks. About 1,000 Ghanaians to be brought back home in this phase. We wish to convey heartfelt appreciation to the Pentecost Church in Pretoria and Johannesburg for offering their premises as shelter for Ghanaians who fled their homes awaiting evacuation. Government assures that no Ghanaian would be abandoned in harm’s way. For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

It is deeply troubling that @DIRCO_ZA has described the petition to the ICC as “opportunistic.” It is not. It reflects a serious failure by @GovernmentZA, @SAPoliceService, @ParliamentofRSA, @PresidencyZA, law‑enforcement agencies, and South African society to uphold and enforce the rule of law. Criminal groups are attacking Black people they believe are “undocumented” or “taking jobs,” and those responsible continue to roam freely, committing further abuses against anyone perceived as an immigrant. Let’s be clear: undocumented immigrants are human beings, and their rights must be respected and protected. Where laws are broken, it is the responsibility of law‑enforcement agencies, not mobs, to act. Allowing vigilante groups to control the streets is unacceptable. What is happening in South Africa is ugly, disgraceful, and indefensible. For comparison, when similar riots occurred in the UK, authorities suspended all other court cases to focus solely on prosecuting those attacking immigrants, their homes, and facilities. That is what responsible governments do; they confront criminal behaviour rather than defend it. Every country, including those in Africa, faces challenges with undocumented immigration in one way or the other. However, no one dares to attack people or their properties in those countries because they are immigrants whether undocumented or not. The full force of the law will apply on them if anyone does it.
