The resignations of Tim Davie and Deborah Turness mark a moment of deep crisis for the BBC’s credibility. The Panorama scandal was not a minor editorial lapse - it was a serious breach of trust that misled audiences on a matter of major political importance. Public confidence in the BBC rests on its ability to report fairly and accurately, free from political or ideological bias. When that trust is broken, accountability must follow. This is not just about journalism, it’s about freedom of speech and the health of our democracy. A free society depends on honest reporting, not selective editing. The BBC must now conduct a full, transparent investigation and show how it will restore integrity to its journalism - because without truth, there can be no genuine freedom of expression, and no public service broadcasting worthy of the name.

This is the latest shambolic decision by Westminster’s Labour administration. Having promised to defend local people against Sadiq Khan’s Oxford Street power grab they are now actively colluding with him to make life miserable for those living in the City. Shameful.

Good to see Cllr Shiva Tiwari stand up to a rotten Labour Council by leaving Camden’s Labour Group and joining the Conservatives. A contrast to Labour Councillors in @CityWestminster who seem united behind their terrible administration.

As we learn the true horror of Axel Rudakubana's crimes and long history of disturbed behaviour, an important question has been left unanswered. Why are his parents not being investigated for what they knew and didn't report? His father stopped him from heading to his old school the week before. Did he report his son to the authorities or try and get him some help? Not that we know of. Let it be known publicly if so. If Rudakubana managed to avoid a whole life term because he was still legally a child, then his legal guardians need to also be held accountable for his actions. This didn't come out of nowhere. There needs to be a law change to ensure that parents actually parent, and face consequences if they don't.

This government has realised, quicker than most, that if you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Appointing an Anti-Corruption Minister who was an obvious target for corruption allegations given her familial links, sat badly with years of railing about “Tory sleaze”. And you can’t claim that the Conservatives - rather than global affairs - crashed the British economy, and then blame global affairs when the same thing happens on your watch. There is one difference though: it took the Tories a decade and four election victories to get into this level of mess. This government has managed it in 6 months.

But no, we don’t need a new inquiry into rape gangs, as it’s perfectly normal in Britain today for the leader of one of them to be swanning around Rochdale a decade after he was supposed to be deported. Nothing to see here, obviously. I hope @elonmusk makes this scumbag famous.

There is understandable horror about the return of ISIS mass casualty attacks to the West, but in reality, ISIS ideology has never left us. This is your UK reminder that MI5 recently clarified that 75% of terrorist threats it is handling are Islamist in nature. With 43 late stage terror plots having been foiled since 2017, it is sadly a question of when - not if - the next attempt succeeds. When are politicians going to start telling the truth about this and cracking down on the greatest internal security problem facing the UK today?

UK immigration is completely out of control. Today's figures for the 12 months to June 2024 show net migration of 728,000. The previous' year's numbers have been revised⬆️to an eye-watering 906,000. That means the UK's population has swelled by 1.6 million+ in just 2 years. (1/4)

During the last council meeting, Cllr @alanmendoza raised an important point on @CityWestminster's lack of enforcement, when it comes to illegally-parked cars. I've recently witnessed a similar case, in St James's, where a car was repeatedly parked on a pavement, preventing pedestrian access. When investigated, it emerged that the driver was happy to pay a daily fine for the convenience of parking their car illegally. This points to a failure in the current system and a need to explore tougher enforcement options. Dear @PDimoldenberg: 1. Do the penalties increase in severity for repeat offenders, under the current system? If a Penalty Charge Notice fee remains flat, offenders with means may simply treat it as a parking fee. 2. Do the cars that fail to move within a reasonable timeframe, after a PCN issuance, receive an additional same-day penalty? The compounding effect would greatly lower repeat offending and generate more income for the council. 3. Why doesn't the council remove illegally-parked vehicles, so long as they have an MOT? It is a low exemption bar that sends a wrong message to the offenders. There is clearly a need for stricter enforcement and the council should be moving in the right direction.
